Galaxy S21 Camera Specs Leak: What To Expect From Samsung’s New Phones

Galaxy S21 Camera Specs Leak: What To Expect From Samsung’s New Phones

A recent Galaxy S21 camera specs leak points to a familiar Samsung hardware setup, albeit with some changes. The South Korean tech giant’s Galaxy Unpacked event is due to take place earlier than usual this year with the new phones likely to be announced this month. That’s not the only change expected in 2021, with reports suggesting the company is now ready to retire the Galaxy Note series.

At the company’s next major event, Samsung is expected to unveil the highly-anticipated Galaxy S21, S21+ and S21 Ultra models. While leaks have already shown that the Galaxy S21’s new camera array looks sleeker than its predecessor’s, there’s been little word on the hardware specs. Rumors have speculated that Samsung will be keeping the Galaxy S20’s main shooters in the upcoming models, raising the question of what actual camera changes will be offered with the Galaxy S21 series?

According to Galaxy S21 infographics made available by Evan Blass, the new Samsung phones will sport similar camera hardware specs as last year’s models. Both the base Galaxy S21 and S21+ feature a triple camera setup on the back, consisting of a 12-megapixel main, 12-megapixel ultra-wide, and a 64-megapixel telephoto. On the front, there will reportedly be a 10-megapixel selfie camera. The Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G’s rear camera setup gets a more noticeable change with its quad-camera array consisting of a two 10-megapixel telephoto lenses, a 108-megapixel primary lens, and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens. This is in addition to the 40-megapixel selfie camera.

How Galaxy S21 Cameras Compare To Galaxy S20

Galaxy S21 Camera Specs Leak: What To Expect From Samsung’s New Phones

The Galaxy S20, along with the more powerful S20 Ultra, were regarded as the best Samsung had to offer in 2020, and it seems like Samsung is still banking on the same camera hardware for its next flagship. While the Galaxy S21 clearly received aesthetic changes, the same can’t be said when it comes to the internals, considering the specs are pretty similar overall. Providing this latest leak is accurate, what’s curious is that both the Galaxy S21 and S21+ now share the same camera setup, compared to the S20 counterparts and their slightly different configurations.

As for the Galaxy S21 Ultra, it seems dual 10-megapixel telephoto lenses will be replacing the single 48-megapixel telephoto lens found on the S20 Ultra. Otherwise, the rest of the quad array appears to have remained unchanged. Of course, the lack of changes don’t exactly translate to similar performance for both generations. The Samsung Galaxy S21 series will still benefit from the many photography improvements offered by the Snapdragon 888 SoC, so it might not necessarily need hardware upgrades to offer an improved user experience.
