G.I. Joe’s Dreadnoks Have A Hidden Connection to Transformers In the Energon Universe

G.I. Joe’s Dreadnoks Have A Hidden Connection to Transformers In the Energon Universe

WARNING! Potential spoilers ahead for Cobra Commander #3Cobra Commander is on the hunt for Energon in the new G.I. Joe continuity, but his quest has put him in danger with one of the franchise’s most dangerous factions. The Dreadnoks have made their official Energon Universe debut, and a new preview shows they may have a connection to the Transformers‘ energy source. Cobra Commander may have truly stepped in it this time when coming up against the Louisiana biker gang.

Coming from the creative team of Joshua Williamson, Andrea Milana, Annalisa Leoni and Rus Wooten, Cobra Commander #3 continues to follow the titular character as his mission brings him to the swamp-lands of Louisiana. After a harrowing encounter with the Dreadnoks Buzzer, Ripper and Zarana, the Commander stumbles deep into the swamp, where he encounters an even deadlier threat.

The preview for Cobra Commander #3 picks up with Cobra Commander quite literally in the jaws of danger, before switching over to Zarana calling a meeting of the Dreadnoks. Although the preview is unlettered, it isn’t hard to guess what the meeting is about once Zarana lays an Energon cube on the table.

G.I. Joe’s Dreadnoks Have Their Own Source of Energon

G.I. Joe’s Dreadnoks Have A Hidden Connection to Transformers In the Energon Universe

So many questions are raised now that it has been revealed that the Dreadnoks have their own source of Energon, the substance that powers the Transformers. Does the legendary biker gang realize what they have on their hands? Thanks to the goings-on in sister title Duke, fans already know that Energon is being used to create weapons by various factions, including Destro’s M.A.R.s Industries. Are the Dreadnoks aware of this? Furthermore, is it possible that the biker gang has been harvesting Energon in the swamps and selling it to Destro, having already formed an alliance between the two factions? It has been strongly hinted that the Cobra Commander miniseries will end with the official formation of Cobra, so the pieces are in place for these factions to align.

Before that happens, though, Cobra Commander will have to prove himself as a leader in his own right. Considering that the main cover by series artists Andrea Milana and Annalisa Leoni depicts Cobra Commander at the mercy of Zarana, it looks like the Commander has quite a ways to go before that happens. Even if Cobra Commander manages to bring all these factions together, he will still have to contend with the constant threat of back-stabbings and betrayals. One of the key aspects of Cobra in the original continuity was how untrustworthy everyone was, as the likes of Destro, Major Bludd and the Baroness were constantly trying to find a way to wrest power away from Cobra Commander.

Is Skybound Setting Up A Massive Transformers/G.I. Joe Crossover?

Cobra Commander Megatron

The Dreadnoks being in possession of Energon also potentially sets up a major confrontation with the Transformers. The Energon Universe line has tied the two franchises together closer than they ever have been in the past, and Cobra Commander was revealed to be keeping none other than Megatron as his prisoner. All signs seem to be pointing to a massive crossover event between all the Energon Universe titles, which promises to be the biggest event in both franchises’ storied history. Cobra Commander has a tough road ahead of him in the Energon Universe dealing with factions like the Dreadnoks, so G.I. Joe and Transformers fans won’t want to miss an issue to see what happens next.
