FX Set To Premiere Modern-Day Western, ‘Justified’

After much anticipation, FX is finally ready to debut their modern-day western drama, Justified, on Tuesday night. Based on crime novelist Elmore Leonard’s character, Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens, the series will follow Givens as he delivers his own brand of justice – with a Stetson, cowboy boots and hip holster in tow.

The show, created by screenwriter Graham Yost (Speed, The Pacific) stars Timothy Olyphant (Damages, Live Free or Die Hard) as Raylan Givens is more of a throwback to past dramas than what’s on the air today.

The crime labs, cotton swabs and fancy machines of today have been replaced by Raylan Given, a man with only one thing on his mind – justice. No matter what side of the law it puts him on, he will deliver it. Despite carrying the familiar western hip holster sidearm, one should not be afraid, unless he draws it, because Given’s believes that there is only one purpose for a gun – to kill.

Although, it’s this way of thinking that has put Given’s in his present predicament. After shooting a criminal in a Miami hotel and feeling the wrath of the U.S. Marshals, Given’s was sent back as punishment to the one place he vowed never to return, his hometown in Kentucky.

While there, Given’s will not only have to deal with the typical duties of a U.S. Marshal – chasing down fugitives, protecting witnesses and transporting prisoners – but also have to confront his past which includes an old friend turned bank robber, his former high school crush, an ex-wife and above all, his career criminal father.

FX, like USA, has an unprecedented record for producing critically acclaimed dramas and from the looks of it, Justified will most certainly be the newest addition to that list.

What do you think of FX’s newest drama? Are you ready for a modern-day western? Do you think Timothy Olyphant will be able to pull it off?
