Frozen Live-Action Remake Rumor Sparks Fervent Ideas For Elsa & Anna Castings

Rumors of a live-action Frozen remake incite fervent opinions on Elsa and Anna’s casting. In Disney’s 2013 hit Frozen and follow-up Frozen II, sisters Elsa and Anna are voiced by Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell, respectively. Menzel and Bell contribute their vocal talents to some of Frozen’s most iconic songs, including “Let It Go,” “Love is an Open Door,” and “Into the Unknown.”

Word of a live-action Frozen remake sparks conversation online as to who should play Elsa and Anna. Taking to Twitter, users had differing opinions on who would best embody the sisters of Arendelle.

@Shanaya_Ja suggested that Anya Taylor-Joy play Ice Queen Elsa opposite Stranger Things’ Sadie Sink as Anna. This casting is a reasonable suggestion, as Sink has long been a stage actress, and would have the vocal talents for the role, and Taylor-Joy physically fits the part well.

@anyafolders agreed with part of this suggestion, dream-casting Taylor-Joy as Elsa.

Another actress floated for the lead (by @perrielelight) was English singer Perrie Edwards.

@rhyslittlespoon had an even fuller cast in mind, picturing a leading group with Anna Kendrick as Anna, Brittany Snow as Elsa, Jonathan Groff as Kristoff, and James Marsden as Hans.

One user, @ciiemme, pointed out that Frozen has already gotten a live-action interpretation in an episode of Once Upon a Time. In her post, she included a video clip from Once Upon a Time featuring Elsa and Anna actresses Georgina Haig and Elizabeth Lall.

Others endorsed this opinion, including @caitluz, who said that Haig and Lall were “the spitting image of them.”

Finally, @ReosPositivePOV went a different direction in suggesting that “preferably two unknown actors” should play Elsa and Anna in a live-action remake.

How Likely Is a Live-Action Frozen Remake?

A live-action Frozen has not been confirmed by Disney. The film would not be out of the question given both Frozen and Frozen II’s massive success and the fact that Frozen has already been adapted into a stage musical, making the transition to live-action film easier. That said, these whisperings of a live-action Frozen movie are still only rumors, keeping viewers guessing as to what a cast would look like.

The Frozen audience will get more content in the coming years. After the $1.4 billion success of Frozen II, Disney has confirmed that Frozen 3 is in the works. A release date and exact storyline has not been confirmed for Frozen 3, but it is likely that Disney will focus their efforts there before creating any live-action Frozen.
