Frozen 3 Should Bring Back The Original Movie’s Villain (& There’s 1 Easy Way To Do It)

Frozen 3 Should Bring Back The Original Movie’s Villain (& There’s 1 Easy Way To Do It)

Disney has yet to reveal much information about the plot of Frozen 3, but the upcoming sequel should bring back the original movie’s villain — and there’s an easy way to make a Hans appearance happen. Hans is introduced as Anna’s love interest at the beginning of 2013’s Frozen, but the movie’s twist reveals he’s not a traditional Disney prince. Disney subverts its usual tropes by making Hans a villain, shifting focus to the power of sisterly love over romance.

This is one of Frozen‘s strengths, but Hans as a character is somewhat underwhelming. Although it’s satisfying to see Anna and Elsa topple his plans, there’s no real depth to his motivations or attempt to dethrone Anna. Frozen 3 has the opportunity to change this and expand upon the series’ royalty storyline — a subplot that’s lacking in comparison to Elsa’s quest to find herself and master her magic.

Although Disney’s short film Frozen Fever shows Hans disgraced and shoveling manure, viewers don’t hear much about the villain after his loss in the first Frozen movie. While Hans doesn’t deserve a comeback or redemption arc, it’s odd that his confrontation with Anna and Elsa doesn’t have more of an impact on Arendelle. His actions would negatively impact his family, creating a rift between them and Arendelle’s leading ladies. This would potentially cause problems between the two kingdoms, as well as their other neighbors.

While the Frozen movies are unlikely to get too into politics, Anna’s new role as queen of Arendelle will no doubt factor into the plot of the third installment. Frozen 3 should show how she’s handling the throne, highlighting any issues she faces when it comes to this duty. As such, another royal family would make an ideal villain for the sequel. And Hans perfectly sets that up, with Frozen 3 offering the perfect opportunity to bring him back — and reveal more about his kin.

Hans’ Family Or Another Royal Line Would Make An Ideal Villain For The Frozen Sequel

With Anna’s time as queen likely serving as a central conflict of Frozen 3, Hans’ family or another royal line would make perfect villains for the upcoming sequel. Although Disney can’t repeat the same Hans twist, it can still use him to introduce newcomers. And Anna will likely need to prove herself to the other royals, pushing her to develop and spend more time in the spotlight. This would make a compelling arc, and it would expand the world-building of Arendelle. After all, there are plenty of other kingdoms to explore in future Frozen sequels. Frozen 3 can start this by returning to the original’s neighboring kingdom.
