Friends: 10 Storylines That Prove Monica & Chandler Were A Better Couple Than Ross & Rachel

Friends: 10 Storylines That Prove Monica & Chandler Were A Better Couple Than Ross & Rachel

Courtney Cox made a cameo in Stranger Things as her young self playing the character of Gloria Dinallo in the TV series Misfits of Science. Everybody remembers her as Monica from Friends though, and like many other of her co-stars, it will be difficult for fans to ever forget her role as Chandler’s soulmate.

Chandler and Monica are still one of the best sitcom couples to have ever appeared on TV. Their healthy, loving, and fun relationship is a life goal for most fans of the show. However, most of the time, Ross and Rachel are treated as if they were the main and best couple of the series, but there are multiple times Mondler proved they were better than them.

Monica Admitting Chandler Was The Best She Ever Had

Friends: 10 Storylines That Prove Monica & Chandler Were A Better Couple Than Ross & Rachel

Ross had to work to impress Rachel as much as her ex-boyfriend Paolo, and Rachel had to hear Ross say that the girl from the copy place was “different” in bed. On top of that, when Rachel dressed up as Princess Leia in the gold bikini to spice things up with Ross, he couldn’t stop picturing his mom.

Chandler and Monica, however, had such chemistry since the beginning of their relationship that they could barely keep their hands off each other, and Monica said to Rachel how her secret boyfriend (Chandler) was the best sex she ever had. When it comes to intimacy, Mondler seems to have way more fun than Ross and Rachel.

Chandler Admitting She Loves Monica

Chandler and Phoebe about to kiss in Friends

Chandler had previously kissed Phoebe and Rachel in front of Monica when he was trying to cover their relationship. However, these kisses were short and insignificant and when Chandler thinks he has to kiss Phoebe properly and engage in some sort of flirting, he lost it and admitted he loves Monica.

Even though Monica was aware of the situation and was fully aware that he was going to kiss Pheobe as a way to ‘mess with’ her and Rachel, Chandler did not feel any pleasure from doing it. He felt guilty and overwhelmed by the desire to only kiss the woman he loved. Ross only needed a couple of hours to kiss another woman (and then some) after his first fight with Rachel.

Chandler Overcoming His Fear Of Commitment

Chandler was afraid of any serious relationship after the disastrous divorce of his parents. He was afraid of getting married and starting a family but throughout his entire relationship with Monica, he grew and overcame his fears to marry the love of his life and adopt children.

His growth was first shown when he clumsily decides to propose to Monica, however, he proved it multiple times after that, making the world see once again how Chandler and Monica were Friends’ best relationship.  Fans expected Ross to grow because of his relationship with Rachel and his multiple screw-ups for being jealous or possessive, but he never did.

Never Breaking Up

Ross and Rachel were in an “on and off” relationship drama that lasted the whole ten seasons of the series. Chandler and Monica, on the other hand, never separated or broke up since the beginning of their relationship, and eventually moved in together, got married, and adopted twins.

Mondler was always a healthy relationship. Both could trust, understand, love, and accept each other no matter what, which led them to never have a fight that could break up the relationship. Ross and Rachel always had a problem with each other’s personalities and were so incompatible that they repeatedly broke up.

Mondler Successfully Moving In Together

It was sudden and unexpected, but Chandler and Monica moved in together after a brief talk about it. Sure, they had some minor issues regarding the furniture and other moving matters, but eventually, they worked it out and became perfect roomies that had lots of fun.

After Rachel gets pregnant and gives birth to Emma, Ross and Rachel move in together too, but it doesn’t work out because Ross becomes really possessive of Rachel, even though they are not in a relationship, and Rachel has to move out abruptly. Monica and Chandler have many life lessons to teach about healthy relationships, and Ross and Rachel could have taken some notes.

Chandler Kissing Another Bride

Chandler and Ross take photos and Monica opens the wedding gifts

Chandler and Ross think the wedding cameras got lost and try to recreate the pictures in another couple’s wedding while Monica opens all the wedding gifts without Chandler. Fans know how this leads to one of the most iconic scenes and quotes from Chandler and Monica that proved they were perfect for each other.

“You opened all the presents without me?” “You kissed another woman?” “Call it even?” “Okay!” was all that was said after that small incident that could be considered infidelity. Ross, on the other hand, was intensely jealous about things that never happened with Rachel and Mark, even though he had no proof of her having an affair.

Monica Supporting Chandler’s Dream Job

When Rachel first started working on something that she cared about and began to dedicate many hours to Bloomingdales, Ross started to constantly complain about how he seemed to be less important than her career. He put Rachel in a very unfair position as the “bad guy” for showing interest and dedication to her dream job.

Ross never showed support for Rachel’s profession and always minimized it. Monica, on the other hand, helped and motivated Chandler to not get his old job back and find one that he loved, even if that meant that she would have to financially support him for an undefined period of time.

When Chandler was transferred to Tulsa, Oklahoma, Monica had agreed she would go with him. However, after looking for a job there, she found out an important New York restaurant was looking for a head chef, so she took the job and stayed home. Although saddened, Chandler understood this was a big step for her and started a long-distance relationship.

Being thoughtful about a partner’s career and understanding how important a job is in their lives is something Ross was never able to recognize. At first, he made Rachel feel guilty about having too much work and not being able to pay attention to him, but in the final episode, he sabotaged Rachel’s dream, as if they couldn’t try out a long-distance relationship first.

Monica Proposing To Chandler

Every viewer’s eyes were teary when this iconic scene happened in the sixth season and set itself to be one of the most memorable proposals in TV history. Monica’s proposal was totally unexpected, touching, and heartwarming in every way and showed again how much Chandler and Monica were the perfect couple.

Rachel never proposed to Ross or vice-versa. They never were able to get to that part before getting involved in some fight that would make them end the relationship again. Even though they did get married in Vegas, they were both drunk and didn’t really have a previous romantic proposal.

Monica Putting A Turkey On Her Head

People who love each other do whatever they can to make their loved ones feel better, and Monica took this to heart when she tried to get a smile out of Chandler by putting a Turkey on her head. She didn’t only do that, but also added a hilarious hat and glasses, and started dancing.

Ross and Rachel do not have a moment as tender and funny as this one, and neither did anything as significant to make each other laugh or feel better on a bad day. Ross and Rachel have various romantic moments throughout the series, but strong relationships are not just about being romantic, they are also about having fun and laughing together.
