Friday The 13th Part III Set Photos Reveal New BTS Look At Jason’s Face

New behind the scenes images from Friday the 13th Part III have been released that show an unmasked Jason Voorhees and multiple stunts that were involved for the movie. Part III of the franchise follows Jason as he goes on another killing spree around Crystal Lake.

While Friday the 13th Part III is underrated, it has provided the most iconic image from the franchise by introducing Jason Voorhees hockey mask. In the original Friday the 13th, Jason was only in one brief scene and in Part II, Jason wore a sack over his head to hide his face. Starting with Part III and going forward with the rest of the series, the hockey mask would remain. What did not stay consistent in the Friday the 13th movies was the canon surrounding it, particularly in Jason’s appearance. Jason takes off his mask in nearly every movie, and looks vastly different in each time. At this point in the series, Jason was not established as the unstoppable killer he would become and doesn’t have any of his future zombie aesthetic.

On their Facebook page, Smoking Zombie Films released new behind the scenes images from the movie. The images primarily capture the filming of the climax of Part III. The photos give an up-close look at Jason’s face and the prosthetics that were used on actor Richard Brooker. Check out the images below:

The photographs taken give a look at some of the stunts that were performed in the movie. As Friday the 13th Part III was filmed in 3D for its release, the images also show how some shots were completed. An image from the alternate ending of Part III is also featured that shows Jason decapitating Chris Higgins. In the theatrical cut, Chris survives the movie.

Ever since Jason took over as the villain of the Friday the 13th franchise, part of the fun of the movies is getting to see his face. While Jason’s build and hockey mask have been fairly consistent, the unmasking scenes always give something new. With different artists designing new prosthetics for each movie it always helps things feel fresh. As Jason spends a significant amount of time without his hockey mask in the third act of the movie, the design of the character has to look right. These behind the scenes images give a close look at the man behind the mask.
