Friday The 13th Art Spotlights The Many Different Looks Of Jason Voorhees

Friday The 13th Art Spotlights The Many Different Looks Of Jason Voorhees

Friday The 13th artwork takes a trip through time and spotlights the many different looks of Jason Voorhees throughout the franchise’s over 40-year history. After making a brief appearance as a decomposing ghoul in a final scare in the original 1980 movie, Jason rose and began his own bloody killing spree in the sequel, Friday the 13th Part II. Often donning a hockey mask, Jason would not only haunt Camp Crystal Lake, but widen his bloody rampage to Manhattan and the reaches of space.

As October 13 falls on a Friday, artist Moutchy_tee has shared a new piece of artwork on Instagram that looks back on the entirety of the Friday the 13th movie saga by cataloging how its most famous killer has evolved over 43 years.

The artist’s piece is a collage of Jason’s appearances both wearing his now iconic hockey ask and what lies behind the mask, from the moment he emerged from the lake, to his futuristic cyborg appearance in Jason X. While various depictions of Voorhees are the focus, the artwork also features a nod to Pamela Voorhees (Betsy Palmer) in the form of Jason’s morbid shrine, while copycat Roy Burns (Dick Wieand) is also featured, bringing together every Friday the 13th killer.

Jason’s Look Has Shown The Character’s Wear Throughout The Series

While Jason may not be the only slasher villain icon who has endured throughout the years, he is perhaps the one who has endured some of the wilder evolutions when compared to his fellow killers. While Michael Myers’ later installments in the Halloween franchise introduced and wiped away familial connections and the involvement of supernatural cults and resurrections, Jason’s returns have been explored through many lenses. Be it through Burns’ copycat killer persona, the Frankenstein-esque resurrection of Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives that gifted him unholy powers, to his nanotech augmentations in Jason X, the reasons behind the killer’s unnaturally long life have changed with the times, for better and worse.

With varied changes to the character’s lore, Friday the 13th has seen Jason undergo intense physical changes each time he is featured in the killer role. While Jason would wear a sack-inspired mask when he stepped into the antagonistic role in Friday the 13th: Part II, he would find and don his hockey mask in Friday the 13th: Part III, creating his iconic look. However, with each defeat by a lucky lone survivor, Jason would also show the wear of his battles, becoming more scarred and rotten through each blow and death.

With Jason having undergone so many changes, Moutchy_tee’s artwork is a perfect tribute to how the character has changed throughout the years. Not only does the piece feature Jason and his fellow killers but gives viewers a clear glimpse at just how each installment took its toll on the seemingly immortal slasher villain. As a new Friday the 13th movie and show lurks on the horizon, many may wonder just what form the killer from below the lake could take next.
