Frasier Reboot Episode 3 Recap: 10 Best & Funniest Moments

Warning! Spoilers ahead for the Frasier reboot episode 3.

The Frasier reboot episode 3 sees Frasier Crane embark on a new professional journey, and unfortunately, it doesn’t go all too well. After deciding to return to Boston 30 years since he left the city to move back to Seattle, Frasier continues to get re-acquainted with the city he once called home. Determined to make up for all the time he wasn’t able to spend with Freddy, the snobbish therapist didn’t have any issues finding his new digs on the East Coast. Motivated by wanting to do something worthwhile with his time, Frasier becomes a teacher at his alma mater, Harvard.

Because of his successful private practice, Frasier was able to accumulate wealth during the last time he was in Boston. His finances only grew after he spent more than a decade hosting a successful TV show in Chicago. With more money to spend in this lifetime, Frasier could have just retired. Instead, he decides to make the most out of his life by venturing into a brand-new professional territory. Unfortunately, while he has a penchant for preaching and sharing knowledge, he soon realizes that teaching is a whole different ball game in the Frasier reboot episode 3, “First Class.”

10 Frasier Starts His New Job As A Teacher At Harvard In Episode 3

Frasier Reboot Episode 3 Recap: 10 Best & Funniest Moments

The Frasier reboot episode 3 opens with Frasier getting ready for his first class. Uncharacteristically, he can’t decide which suit jacket to wear to Harvard; he changes a couple of times until he realizes that David is wearing the same thing as he does. Unlike the original Frasier which kicks off six months since he moved back to Seattle, which means that he was already quite settled in his new job, the revival fully tackles Frasier’s first day in his new job. Despite his successful guest lecture of Alan Cornwall’s study group in the Frasier reboot pilot, he is met with bigger challenges in his own class.

One of the freshest dynamics in the Frasier reboot is the friendship between Eve and Freddy. Episode 3 continues to explore their relationship as Frasier’s son helps her prepare for her upcoming audition. Interestingly, Freddy seems really invested in it, suggesting how much he genuinely roots for her. As someone who has experience in theatrics and a deep interest in the craft, it’s Frasier who is able to demonstrate how Eve should approach the role.

8 Frasier’s Past Haunts Him In Episode 3

Frasier reboot's Frasier

As a former radiotherapist in Seattle, Frasier is no stranger to public speaking. His time in Chicago further honed this particular skill. Both jobs were beneficial as they allowed him to become some kind of celebrity, and the Crane firstborn revels in people’s admiration of him. During his first class at Harvard, however, he realizes that his past is more of a hindrance to his attempt at entering academia. Many of his students only signed up for his class hoping to get actionable advice from him and not be actually interested in the formal lessons. Instead of leaning on the benefits provided by his celebrity status, this discourages him.

7 Frasier Reboot Episode 3 Reveals What Frasier’s TV Show Was Like

Frasier was offered a job to host a TV show in San Francisco at the end of the old series. While he passed up on the opportunity to follow Charlotte in Chicago, he was still able to land a TV job in the Midwest. Being on the small screen was the perfect next career step after his KACL stint, and it was for a while. While explaining to Alan why he refuses to lean on his past as a TV host in the Frasier reboot episode 3, he shows his colleague how “Dr. Crane” progressed from a genuine talk show highlighting his skills as a therapist to a gimmicky program.

6 Alan Helps Frasier To Teach A Class In Episode 3

After the mass exodus in his class, Frasier licks his wounds with alcohol at Mahoney’s. Soon enough, Olivia comes in to confront him about his drop-outs. She reminds him of their goal to elevate Harvard’s psychology department — something that she wants primarily for herself. Nevertheless, Olivia suggests that Frasier and Alan teach a class together, just until the former gets used to it. What Frasier doesn’t know is that she goes behind his back and sets up the class to be like his old TV show. This results in Frasier panicking, but after Olivia coerces him to be a “dancing bear” to ensure that his class remains packed.

However, Frasier’s optimistic demeanor changes after Olivia goes behind their backs and ambushes them with a “Dr. Crane” set-up in the classroom, complete with the theme song and stairs entrance. This sends Frasier into a panic. Olivia forces him to still teach the class, eventually admitting that she needs him to be a “dancing bear” just so she can compete with her sister at Yale.

4 Freddy Mocks Frasier For Wanting To Quit His Harvard Job In Episode 3

As Frasier reboot episode 3 focuses on Frasier’s new career at Harvard, his developing dynamic with Freddy takes a step back. However, arguably one of the best moments from the episode involves the young Crane. After being forced to bring his own TV persona to his class, Frasier comes home defeated. He admits to wanting to quit Harvard, which gives Freddy the perfect opportunity to mock the way his father reacted to him dropping out from the Ivy League institution. He doesn’t do a straight-up impersonation of his dad, but his sarcastic performance is still hilarious to watch.

3 Frasier Reboot Episode 3 Features Several References To Niles

David Hyde Pierce’s Niles isn’t in the Frasier reboot and the first two episodes don’t really get into that. Episode 3 continues that, but it features a few subtle references to Martin and Hester Crane’s youngest son. The first Niles Easter egg in “First Class” comes in the form of a joke, after Frasier realizes that he is dressed similarly to David, prompting him to change. This is something that happened to him and Niles before when they both showed up at Cafe Nervosa sporting the same ensemble.

Wanting to help Frasier in his new job, David volunteers to make his uncle look good in front of his Harvard class. Unfortunately, it backfires after Frasier chooses Eve for this role. This resulted in a very public clash between the pair, causing a disruption in Frasier’s class. The banter between them is fun and is something that may be more frequent in the Frasier reboot moving forward.

At the end of the Frasier reboot episode 3, Frasier still feels defeated for not having a choice but to lean into his old TV antics to get his students engaged. Having left his previous job because it leaves him drained, he confides in Alan, who gives him a healthy reality check. He simply helps him realize that he is still doing a great job despite feeling like a failure. Unfortunately, Olivia concocts a lie in her effort to keep Frasier doing his TV bit in his class. It does perk Frasier up, but there’s something manipulative about concocting a lie when she could have stuck with the truth.
