Frasier Reboot Adds First Cast Member Opposite Kelsey Grammer

Frasier Reboot Adds First Cast Member Opposite Kelsey Grammer

The Frasier reboot adds its first cast member to star opposite Kelsey Grammer. After years of the Frasier star spearheading a revival series, the reboot was finally confirmed at Paramount+, with Grammer returning in the lead role. This exciting announcement also came with the disappointing caveat that no other original Frasier cast members would be returning as series regulars, including those who were instrumental to the original show’s success, such as David Hyde Pierce, Jane Leeves, and Peri Gilpin. This meant the Frasier reboot would have to start from scratch and assemble an entirely new supporting cast around Grammer.

Now, the Fraiser sequel series has found its first cast member to go along with Kelsey Grammer. According to Variety, the Paramount+ reboot has cast Nicholas Lyndhurst opposite the series lead. The English actor has a ton of television and sitcom experience, starring in British shows, such as Only Fools and Horses, Goodnight Sweetheart, Going Straight, Butterflies, The Two of Us, The Piglet Files, and After You’ve Gone. Grammer and Lyndhurst have never appeared together on-screen, though they did star together on stage in Man of La Mancha for English National Opera at the London Coliseum.

Everything We Know About The Frasier Reboot

While the original series was famously set in Seattle, the Frasier reboot will find Kelsey Grammer’s titular psychiatrist in a different city, facing new challenges, forging new friendships, and perhaps finally finding love. The setting for the Paramount+ reboot is still unknown, although it could be Chicago, which is where Frasier was headed during the series finale. Chris Harris (How I Met Your Mother) and Joe Cristalli (Life In Pieces) are the two writers who have been tasked with handling Frasier’s return to television.

Aside from Kelsey Grammer returning as Fraiser Crane, Nicholas Lyndhurst is now the first cast member to join the new iteration of the beloved sitcom. The English actor will be playing the role of Alan Cornwall, who is described as “British, boozy, and larger than life.” Further details reveal that Alan Cornwall is Frasier’s old friend from his time at Oxford and, thus, has an intellect to rival the lead character. Based on this description and the fact Lyndhurst was the first cast member announced, it sounds like Alan Cornwall could be replacing David Hyde Pierce’s Niles Crane as the Frasier reboot’s deuteragonist, which will be some very big shoes to fill.

The Frasier reboot adding its first supporting cast member is an exciting update for the sequel series and an indication it is finally taking shape at Paramount+. There is still no official release date for the reboot, but with the casting process now in progress, an approximate timeline is starting to become apparent. Now that the Frasier reboot has cast Kelsey Grammer’s first co-star, more announcements should be on the way very soon.
