Forza Horizon 5: How To Use The Livery Editor

The livery system in Forza Horizon 5 allows players to customize and fine-tune their vehicles, share their customizations online, and download designs and modifications created by other players. Every player has the ability to optimize their car for different types of races, PR stunts, and their own playstyle. Additionally, players can create their own custom paint jobs by stacking layers of vinyl shapes, groups, and masks.

Forza Horizon 5 has more than 500 cars available to choose from, and every car in Forza Horizon 5 can utilize the livery system. Within the “Upgrades & Tuning” and “Designs & Paints” categories are several additional options for customization. Upgrades & Tuning contains everything that players need in order to optimize their car, whether they choose to customize individual parts themselves, auto-upgrade, refer to other players’ tuning setups. Likewise, the Designs & Paints category has similar options for players to choose from.

One of the great customization features of Forza Horizon 5 allows players to sync their designs from previous Forza games, dating back to Forza Motorsport 5. Many popular cars that were featured in past Forza games have made their return, so players have the ability to customize their long-time favorites once again with designs they used previously. Customizing cars can take place as soon as players are able to freely explore, allowing them to paint the best first cars in Forza Horizon 5Some players have already implemented fantastic custom designs through vinyl and mask manipulation, creating designs for cars themed after Rick and Morty, Squid Games, and more.

The custom tuning and upgrades part of the livery editor in Forza Horizon 5 is a little more complex than the design section, but it’s well worth learning how to properly tune a car. Selecting the “Custom Upgrade” option in the Upgrades & Tuning section offers six different categories for players to upgrade their cars. These categories are divided into engine, platform and handling, drivetrain, tires and rims, aero and appearance, and conversion.

All of these parts affect how vehicles perform in races throughout Forza Horizon 5. The biggest mistake that players can make in the livery editor is customizing everything before customizing the conversion. The conversion upgrades are the most important detail of customizing a vehicle’s performance in Forza Horizon 5 because the subcategories within conversion affect what parts are available in other categories. If a player has their vehicle all ready for an upgrade they’ll lose any, applicable, parts applied to that vehicle after selecting a new part in the conversion option. Auto-upgrade is also available for players who want to customize a vehicle with a specific performance class in mind.

The livery editor’s custom designs and upgrades from other players can be downloaded and applied to any vehicle in the Forza Horizon 5 game. Custom paint jobs are always free to apply, but custom tuning jobs will require the vehicle’s parts to be purchased before they can be installed. The good news is that custom upgrade jobs can be saved and installed at a later time after enough credits have been earned.

Forza Horizon 5 is available for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
