Fortnite’s New Tenet Easter Egg Hints At Upcoming Event

The new Tenet easter egg in Fortnite hints at an upcoming event. The recent Joy Ride update saw the battle royale title implement cars, trucks, and radio stations, of which cars require players to put fuel in them and can be damaged enough to cause them to leak fuel or pop tires. Moreover, continuing the trend of Fortnite Party Royale – where concerts and other events have been streamed in-game – Fortnite will host ESPN 8: The Ocho on August 8, 2020.

The Party Royale content debuted with a concert featuring Dillon Francis, Steve Aoki, and Deadmau5 – an event that was inspired by the success of Fortnite’s Travis Scott concert in April. The battle royale’s successful addition of Party Royale and its various concerts and activities has led other games to do something similar, such as Minecraft’s Elsewither concert in late May. Destiny 2 also featured its own live event, inspired by Fortnite, though, it didn’t have the favorable feedback for which Bungie hoped.

In a video posted on Twitter by user FilmUpdates, the new Tenet easter egg hints at an upcoming Fortnite crossover event with Christopher Nolan’s new film. The short clip shows a player-character smashing through a wall to reveal the mysterious object resting on an orange case. Nothing happens when players approach, though, that hasn’t prevented speculation regarding the Tenet-inspired item’s significance from circulating the internet. Fans who wish to view the video can do so below.

Fortnite’s innovative use of live events to bring different communities together showcases the utility video games have. The entertaining medium has evolved into more than a time sink for gamers; it now serves as a primary social outlet that gives people the opportunity to interact with like-minded individuals. Sure, there are still differences, and there’s drama, but that’s difficult to completely avoid in any circle. Concerts, livestreams, and other activities are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the kinds of events Fortnite and the gaming industry as a whole has fostered, especially in the wake of COVID-19 when social lives are strained, to put it lightly.

Whatever the Tenet easter egg is teasing, players needing to smash through a wall to see it should offer a modicum of entertainment, to say the least. If other games, such as Minecraft, Destiny 2, and typical MMOs like World of Warcraft continue taking plays out of Fortnite’s book, video games will continue evolving in more ways than just technological. From riveting tales and engaging mechanics to player interaction and product engagement, video games and live events have brought people from all walks of life together, and it’s beautiful.

Fortnite is available on Android, iOS, Mac, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
