Fortnite Recreates Destiny 2 Crucible Mode In-Game

Fortnite has added its own version of Destiny 2’s Crucible mode in the game. Destiny 2 developer and publisher Bungie held a Destiny 2 showcase this August during the opening night of Gamescom 2022. The showcase featured several major announcements, including the game’s next expansion, entitled Lightfall, the new Strand element, several quality-of-life that will be introduced with the new expansion, the game’s upcoming Season of the Plunder, a new raid, and the aforementioned crossover with Fortnite.

As always, Fortnite has also been busy with other collaborations lately. Epic Games released the game’s Dragon Ball collaboration the other week, which introduced skins for Goku, Vegeta, Bulma and Beerus. The two-week event also introduced a lot of interesting content for players to experience, including Creative Islands where they can group up with friends to either watch episodes of the popular anime series or explore some of its iconic locations. There’s also the Fortnite Dragon Ball Tournament of Power Competitive playlist.

Fortnite published and developer Epic Games (via PC Gamer) announced on Twitter that the Destiny 2 and Fortnite collaboration also includes a new game mode in Fortnite that’s inspired by Destiny 2’s Zone Control Crucible game mode, featuring its iconic Javelin-4 map. Interestingly, PC Gamer reports that the new game mode wasn’t actually made by Epic games itself, which chose to commission the work to YouTube creator team PWR. In the creator map, players will choose between three loadouts that are inspired by Destiny 2’s classes. The Titan-inspired loadout has assault rifles and shotguns, sniper rifles for the Warlock, and the Hunter gets revolvers and sticky bombs. The loadouts also include ultimate abilities that are similarly inspired by their Destiny 2 counterparts.

Apart from the new game mode, the collaboration also includes skins for Zavala, Ikora, and the Exo Stranger, each of which costs 1,500 V-bucks, as well as the previously leaked Fortnite-inspired skins for Destiny 2. The Fortnite-inspired armor sets for Destiny 2 are available through the game’s Eververse store. Three sets based on Fortnite characters are available for players to purchase, one for each class. The new Titan armor is based on the Black Knight, the Warlock one is based on Drift, while the Hunter armor is inspired by Oblivion.

It’s pretty interesting that Epic Games decided to commission its Crucible-based map and PWR looks to have done a pretty impressive job recreating Destiny 2’s Javelin-4 in Fortnite. It would be great if Epic Games continued to work with more creators for its crossover content, given how well this one was made.
