Epic Games has revealed singer J Balvin is the next star to be joining Fortnite‘s Icon Series. The five-time Latin Grammy award winner will be joining the free-to-play shooter along with a range of Fortnite add-ons including an emote and glider, which will all be available via the game’s Item Shop later this week.
Fortnite‘s Icon Series has showcased some of the biggest names in entertainment, ranging from sports players to TikTok stars. The Series also has its own subcategory specifically devoted to Fortnite creators and esports players, including the likes of Ninja and Bugha. Icon Series skins are typically only available within the game for a limited time and aren’t likely to return in the future, making some of the skins highly prized amongst fans. Previous Icon Series sets have introduced celebrities such as Travis Scott and TikTok star Bella Poarch to the world of Fortnite.
As revealed by Epic Games, J Balvin will be the next Fortnite Icon Series star, with the game introducing the J Balvin Set. The set will include the J Balvin Outfit, glider, Back Bling, and a new emote. The J Balvin Outfit features J Balvin Air Jordan 1s, and comes with the Energia Balvin and Skeleton Balvin styles included alongside the default look. Meanwhile, the new Real Back Bling can be unsheathed as the Real Pickaxe. The emote will be called the “In Da Party Emote,” with music from “In Da Getto” by J Balvin and Skrillex. All the items will be available in the Fortnite Item Shop beginning August 26, 2021, at 8 PM ET, but players will have a chance to get them early thanks to the J Balvin Cup Duos tournament, beginning August 24. Items can be purchased individually or as part of the J Balvin Bundle.

Both the J Balvin Outfit and Real Back Bling can be unlocked before the set’s full release by competing in a Fortnite Duos tournament at region-specific times. Players and their partners will have a three-hour time window in which to earn as many points as possible in a maximum of 10 matches in order to unlock the content. Fans logging into Fortnite can check the in-game Compete tab to find out when they can take part in the J Balvin Cup, as long as they are account level 30 or above.
The newest addition to the Fortnite Icon Series is one that’s sure to impress fans of the game, but the next stars to be announced are up for speculation. Fortnite is no stranger to celebrity appearances, whether in the form of skins or as part of big events such as the recent Rift Tour. The Fortnite Rift Tour welcomed Ariana Grande to the stage, with millions of players tuning into the virtual event earlier this summer. While future celebrity crossovers remain under wraps for the moment, some Fortnite fans believe Dua Lipa and Halsey are the next performers to appear in the game.
