There have been endless rumors regarding the next James Bond, but fans of the franchise consider Mescal to be a strong candidate. Gaining recognition for his work in Normal People and Aftersun, along with an Oscar nomination for the latter, it seems that Mescal’s star is on the rise, especially after landing the main role in Ridley Scott’s upcoming Gladiator 2. Whether the long-running franchise will target Mescal remains to be seen, but his previous credits suggest that he could pull off 007, and No Time to Die star Ana de Armas previously revealed that she could see him as Bond.

Other popular fan picks for James Bond include Regé-Jean Page, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Richard Madden, and even Tom Holland. Two of the more common choices, in terms of casting rumors, have been Idris Elba and Henry Cavill. Both actors have discussed the franchise before, with Elba addressing some of the negative, racist reactions and Cavill admitting that he was up for Bond before the part eventually went to Craig.

Fans of Mescal will likely be excited to learn that his name is being brought up by fellow actors, including Scott, who has already been a part of the spy franchise. Looking toward the future, it will be interesting to see who gets cast as James Bond, and if there is any weight to the early rumors.
