Scheduled for release on July 3, 2024, Absolute Power #1 by Mark Waid and Dan Mora will thrust DC’s top heroes into a showdown against the Trinity of Evil—Brainiac Queen, Failsafe, and Amanda Waller. In this high-stakes battle, heroes like Wonder Woman, Superman, and Flash will confront power-stealing Amazo robots that could potentially render them permanently powerless.

However, all hope is not lost, as a variant cover by Mora teases major costume upgrades for various Justice League members to assist them in this daunting conflict. Flash’s revamped suit, in particular, represents a significant upgrade in both style and functionality.
Flash’s Costume Upgrade Would Make His Evil Earth-3 Counterpart, Johnny Quick, Jealous
Showcased in Mora’s variant cover, Wally West receives a suit upgrade alongside his Justice League comrades. Of particular note is the significant increase in armor compared to his current attire. Despite its increased bulk, the suit exudes speed with a streamlined design aimed at reducing friction. The addition of a visor and full-head covering suggests a more speedster-friendly approach. Moreover, the inclusion of running-style shoes enhances the suit’s overall functionality. Style-wise, the suit has also changed up Flash’s iconic color scheme by adding a notable amount of gray to the red and yellow typically worn by Flash.
For fans familiar with Earth-3 narratives featuring the Crime Syndicate, the evil counterpart of the Justice League, the new Flash suit may evoke a sense of déjà vu due to its stylistic resemblance to Johnny Quick, the Syndicate’s speedster. Much like Mora’s design for the Absolute Power Flash, Johnny Quick’s suit also incorporates a full-head covering and visor. However, Quick’s head covering lends him a somewhat cone-headed appearance, suggesting that this Earth-3 speedster might envy Wally’s more aesthetically pleasing design.

As previously mentioned, Mora’s new suit design for Flash could provide the speedster with the advantage he needs in the upcoming Absolute Power battle. While the appearance is undoubtedly more conducive to speed, it may also boast some enhanced features. Although it’s challenging to pinpoint these features, one that could greatly benefit the Flash, given his recent storyline, is a suit designed to anchor him to his current reality. In Si Spurrier’s Flash run, Wally has been unintentionally phasing through realities, making a suit that serves as an anchor potentially crucial for him.
