Five Nights At Freddy’s Movie Franchise Copying A FNAF 2 Twist Is Impossible

Five Nights At Freddy’s Movie Franchise Copying A FNAF 2 Twist Is Impossible

The FNAF 2 video game includes a massive twist that’s impossible for the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie franchise to copy. Based on the famous video game series, Blumhouse’s Five Nights at Freddy’s movie follows Mike Schmidt (Josh Hutcherson), who takes on a night guard job at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria, where the animatronics come to life. Five Nights at Freddy’s broke multiple records, including becoming the best debut for a PG-13 horror movie. Unsurprisingly, the second installment was confirmed quickly after the first movie’s release.

The first movie relied on the storyline and lore from the video games and books while transforming the source material into a coherent narrative. Because of this, it seems logical that Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 would follow the second video game in the franchise. While some characters could be pulled from FNAF 2, there is one major twist in the video games that would be impossible and illogical to use in the second movie.

Five Nights At Freddy’s 2’s Surprise Prequel Setting Is More Difficult For The Movies

The Five Nights At Freddy’s Movies And Video Games Have Different Formats

While the Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 video game twist is iconic, it really only worked because of the stagnant setting and invisible characters. The mystery unfolded slowly through phone calls, animatronic visuals, and the minigames. Since the player/Jeremy stays in the office, the prequel setting isn’t abundantly clear. There are also no visual cues related to the player since it’s first person. Unlike the game, the movie would immediately give away the twist.

The restaurant and the outside world would show that Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 occurs in the past. Even if the production team somehow managed to maintain the mystery through the locations, the characters would certainly spoil the twist. The movie’s characters are visible, and their costumes and hairstyles would immediately indicate a different time period. There’s no way they could effectively hide the fact that the movie is a prequel.

The Five Nights at Freddy’s sequel looks to be cashing in on the first movie’s success and avoiding a problem that other video game films have faced.

Five Nights At Freddy’s Success Means A Traditional Sequel Is Better

The First Movie Provides The Framework For A Great Sequel

Josh Hutcherson as Mike Behind the Wheel of His Car in Five Nights at Freddy's

The difficulty in making Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 a prequel might not actually be a bad thing. The first movie was massively successful, meaning it would be smart to bring back the cast of Five Nights at Freddy’s, especially Josh Hutcherson and Elizabeth Lail. The movie left storylines open-ended, such as what happened to Garrett’s ghost and whether Vanessa will live.

Moreover, the hit video game adaptation foreshadowed Spring Bonnie becoming Springtrap, one of the most exciting shifts in the video game. This would ideally come to fruition in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2. The best way to include the characters, answer the questions, and show Springtrap is for the next film to be a sequel, not a prequel. If Blumhouse wanted to make a prequel, it would be better to do this as a spinoff film.
