Five Nights At Freddy’s 2: Release Date Prediction, Franchise Plans & Everything We Know

Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 will be the second installment in the Five Nights at Freddy’s film franchise, and the rich history of the games provides more than enough material for Blumhouse to move forward with a sequel. The 2023 movie Five Nights at Freddy’s is the live-action adaptation of the popular video game series from developer Scott Cawthorn. Both the games and movie focus on Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria, and the haunted, violent animatronic mascots that dwell within.

Riffing on the animatronic animals seen in restaurants like Chuck E. Cheese, the Five Nights at Freddy’s formula proved incredibly easy to adapt for movie audiences, helped by a cast that includes Matthew Lillard (Scream) and Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games). While the ending of the first movie didn’t explicitly set up a sequel, the premise alone feels more than enough to carry on into Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 and beyond. Whether Blumhouse is moving forward with the next installment, however, remains a mystery.

Five Nights At Freddy’s 2: Release Date Prediction, Franchise Plans & Everything We Know

The latest Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 news arrived October 20, 2023, when director Emma Tammi spoke to Inverse about the prospects of a sequel. When asked if she’d return to work with Blumhouse again on the next Five Nights at Freddy’s movie, Tammi responded “Yes, I would for sure. I think we would all be really excited to dive into that if this one does well, and if it seems like audiences have an appetite for that, we would be so excited to make it.”

Her response lines up with comments made earlier in the year about ideas for how to work the Five Nights at Freddy’s movies into a franchise. However, there has yet to be any news or announcements on Five Nights at Freddy’s from Blumhouse. This will likely change if Five Night at Freddy’s performs well at the box office though, as if the first movie is a success the studio, as well as distributor Universal Pictures, will likely want to be quick to get development on a sequel started.

Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 Isn’t Confirmed

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 isn’t confirmed, although director Emma Tammi has hinted that she has plans for more movies in the FNAF feature film franchise. With the first Five Nights at Freddy’s movie arriving in October 2023, it’s likely that Blumhouse and distributor Universal Pictures are waiting to see how it fares at the box office before giving a sequel the green light.

Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 Release Date Prediction

There’s currently no set release date for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, and until Blumhouse confirms a sequel is in development it’s difficult to predict when it will arrive. The first Five Nights at Freddy’s movie was announced several years before it actually released. Sequels typically take less time to get off the ground, so if it’s renewed soon a Five Nights at Freddy’s release date in 2025 is entirely possible.

Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 Cast

The cast of Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 has yet to be confirmed, but there’s no guarantee it will contain the same cast members as the first movie. Horror franchises are known for switching up cast lists between installments, since the focus of the movie is undoubtedly the source of the scares. In the case of the FNAF movies, this means the only guaranteed returning Five Nights at Freddy’s characters in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 are Freddy Fazbear and the other animatronic nightmares of the pizzeria.

As for voice actors, if there are no recasts then Kevin Foster would be back as Freddy, Jade Kindar-Martin as Bonnie, Jessica Weiss as Chica, and Roger Joseph Manning Jr. as Foxy. However, there’s also nothing so far that suggests the next Five Nights at Freddy’s film will have a completely new cast. This means that any of the following could potentially be part of the Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 cast:

  • Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games, Bridge to Terabithia) as Mike Schmidt
  • Piper Rubio (Holly & Ivy) as Abby
  • Elizabeth Lail (You, Gossip Girl) as Vanessa
  • Matthew Lillard (Scream, 13 Ghosts) as William Afton
  • Mary Stuart Masterson (At Close Range, Bed of Roses) as Aunt Jane

While Matthew Lillard’s William Afton died at the end of Five Nights at Freddy’s, it’s entirely possible he could return as an animatronic mascot himself in the Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 cast. The prospect seems likely, since he’s both a prominent name among horror film fans and proved he can hold his own portraying an antagonist. As for new cast members in the next Five Nights at Freddy’s movie, nothing has been revealed yet.

Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 Story

Nothing has been revealed about the Five Nights at Freddy’s story yet, but there have been a few clues. However, the ending and mid-credits scene of Five Nights at Freddy’s dropped surprisingly few teases about what to expect from Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, though nothing concrete. The mid-credits scene in particular was more of a joke than it was an explicit sequel set-up.

In the post-credits scene of Five Nights at Freddy’s, the tiny toy clown that continually scared Mike throughout pulls a scare on the taxi drive from earlier in the film. While this is definitely a funny nod to the events of the movie, and a hint that Freddy Fazbear and co. aren’t the only supernatural entities in the movie universe, it’s not a direct set-up for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2.

As for the ending of the first FNAF movie, it did leave a few unanswered questions that could be addressed in the next Five Nights at Freddy’s movie. A key cliffhanger is whether Vanessa will ever awaken from her coma. She was able to finally confront her father in the first movie, and she has the most knowledge of the history of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria, so having her story end with the first movie would feel abrupt.

Outside of this, the only real hint that there’s a story left to tell in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is that Mike didn’t destroy Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, and that William died within. He could come back as a new twisted animatronic menace in a Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 movie, though until a sequel is confirmed the plot of the next installment in the franchise could go anywhere.
