Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 Confirmed, Release Timeline Revealed

Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 Confirmed, Release Timeline Revealed

Nearly four months after the first movie’s release, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is officially confirmed. Talks of a sequel to the hit horror video game adaptation have swirled since it went on to become Blumhouse’s highest-grossing movie of all time, bringing in just over $297 million against its $20 million production budget, an even greater feat considering its simultaneous streaming release on Peacock. Original stars Matthew Lillard and Josh Hutcherson had seemingly confirmed plans for a sequel at various points, though an official greenlight had yet to come from the studios behind it.

During Universal Pictures’ CinemaCon panel, of which Screen Rant was in attendance, the studio officially announced that Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 was moving forward with them and Blumhouse. In addition to the reveal, which comes after months of seeming confirmations from many of the first movie’s cast, it was announced that the horror sequel is aiming for a Fall 2025 release, though no specific date was confirmed at the time. It’s also unknown at the time of writing whether original co-writer/director Emma Tammi or previous cast members will be returning.

Five Nights At Freddy’s 2’s Release Window Is Great For 2 Reasons

Even aside from Hutcherson and Lillard’s prior comments, the confirmation that Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is moving forward likely won’t come as much of a surprise given the blockbuster success of the first movie. However, the news that it won’t be arriving until sometime in Fall 2025 may, given many studios would look to try and capitalize on the success of their first movie as soon as possible. This is especially true in the horror genre, as the Saw franchise was notorious for turning around sequels once a year before taking a hiatus.

10 Ways Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 Can Be Even Better Than The First Movie

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 can significantly improve on its predecessor, and here are 10 ways that the sequel can be better than the original.

Ultimately, there are a number of reasons why the longer wait for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 will be beneficial to the sequel. The first is that the creative team behind the project will have more time to learn what worked and what didn’t from its predecessor, an important point considering the original Five Nights at Freddy’s scored largely negative reviews from critics. When factoring in The Exorcist: Believer before it and both Night Swim and Imaginary after it, it continued Blumhouse’s poor critical trend on Rotten Tomatoes, with the score comparisons seen below:

In addition to allowing more time for creative development, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 aiming for a Fall 2025 release also sets it up to repeat the success of its predecessor. A Halloween-timed release is perfect for the jolt-driven entertainment both the games and the original movie seek to offer, and with only Saw XI set for a release close to the October season, it will also allow for little competition for the sequel heading into its release, especially if Universal and Peacock forgo the simultaneous streaming release they did with the original.

The first Five Nights at Freddy’s is available to stream on Prime Video.

Five Nights at Freddy’s

Five Nights at Freddy’s is a multimedia horror franchise created by Scott Cawthon that began with the first entry in the video game series, Five Nights at Freddy’s. The core story of the franchise focuses on a pizza franchise known as “Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza,” a kid-friendly entertainment center with animatronic hosts. The stores are closed when the animatronics begin to go berserk, slaying some of their guests. However, for most entries, a security guard is tasked with observing them at night, completely unaware of the horrible history behind the mysterious, murderous robots.
