First Annual Elden Ring Modathon Contest Ends With Game-Changing Results

The first annual Elden Ring Modathon’s winners have been chosen from a talented group of modders who had one week to create impressive mods in the hopes of winning a cash prize. FromSoftware’s latest game has been one of the year’s most popular releases and the Dark Souls developer’s most successful game by far. Although the base game contains hundreds of hours’ worth of discoveries and strong foes to battle, many players anxiously await new Elden Ring DLC and new content to explore. However, PC players have no shortage of incredible mods to help expand their experience.

After Elden Ring released earlier this year, the modding scene exploded with new and transformative ways to play FromSoftware’s latest game. One notable mod, in particular, has reworked the game’s co-op multiplayer to make the experience more seamless and accessible for players who want to enjoy the Lands Between with a friend. On the other side of the coin are mods that have reskinned almost every moving creature in the game. The reskin mods often end with hilarious results, such as the iconic Rennala boss transforming into a fully playable and epic Kingdom Hearts battle against Aladdin‘s Genie. However, some talented content creators and streamers came together to challenge modders to create something new for Elden Ring with a thousand-dollar cash pool for the contest winners.

The winner of the top prize available in the first annual Elden Ring Modathon is AntiSteak’s Sword Mastery mod. The game-changing mod dramatically reworks the game’s combat to feel more like a combination of Sekiro and Bloodborne‘s fast-paced and fluid combat. Overhauling the game’s mechanics and how its weapons work would be a massive undertaking, making AntiSteak’s work on it that much more impressive. Unique weapon deflects, and new combos meld really well with the game. The mod also adjusts attacks and the behavior of particular Elden Ring bosses to heighten the mod’s experience. Gameplay of the winning mod and the other categories’ winners can be seen in the video below posted on LeKevDev’s YouTube page. The winning mods and other submissions can be explored and downloaded through the Nexus Mods Elden Ring section.

These Elden Ring Mods Make Any Tarnished Less Lowly

Although this was only the first Elden Ring Modathon, the contest received many submissions for its three judges to test. Modders were given one week to create a new Elden Ring mod from scratch with three categories to compete in: “Most Cursed,” “Best Reskin,” and “Game Changer.” The Most Cursed mod winner goes to Better Monster Creation by Harmonixer123. The cursed mod removes Elden Ring‘s character creator slider limitations, resulting in some extremely odd and sometimes ridiculously buff Tarnished. The winner for the Best Reskin mod goes to the DS1 Fang Boar by maximiliuxxcc. The best reskin mod transforms players into the infamous Dark Souls Armor Boar enemy, allowing them to charge through enemies and damage them by touching them. Honorable mentions include the impressive Megaman’s Megabuster mod by clevererraptor6.

While Elden Ring‘s modding scene has become incredibly popular for those on PC, those playing on console still have lots of ways to customize their game without the use of console mods. Thanks to the game’s impressive and robust character customization options, users are able to travel the Lands Between as almost any character imaginable – as long as they have the patience to recreate them. Popular non-modded characters include Nickelodeon favorites like Nigel Thornberry, and even BOTW‘s Urbosa remade in Elden Ring.

LeKevDev’s video mentions that the contest received many exceptional mods that, unfortunately, could not all fit into one video. The video also highlights other mods that came close to winning part of the one thousand-dollar prize pool, even including the impressive Mega Man mod. Time will tell what new ways to play Elden Ring modders will come up with next.
