Fire Country Season 2 Teased With Shocking Story Developments From Writers

Fire Country season 2 gets an intriguing update, promising shocking developments for the popular CBS show. Debuting in October 2022, and co-created by the trio of Max Thieriot, Tony Phelan, and Joan Rater, Fire Country focuses on Bode Donovan (Thieriot), a convict with a troubled past. To redeem himself and shorten his prison sentence, he volunteers for Cal Fire. Along with former friends, fellow inmates, and elite firefighters, Bode has to help in putting out the fires that plague the region.

With the writers’ room on Fire Country season 2 reconvened following the end of the writers’ strike, the show’s creative team gave Deadline a preview of what to expect. Showrunner and executive producer Tia Napolitano shared that she felt energized, revealing that the show will depart from where it was in season 1. She added: “My goal is to, the first time we see each and every character, the audience will gasp and be shocked, everyone’s story will be very, very surprising from the moment you see them.” The full quote is below:

“I feel energized, and honestly, Season 2 is not a continuation of Season 1. It’s the next chapter, and I think, having had a rest from Season 1, we feel like we’re ready to come back even stronger and shock everybody from the second the episodes start to air when we’re finally out there.”

What To Expect From Fire Country Season 2 (& How Many Episodes Will It Be?)

Fire Country season 2 is poised to address where season 1 left off. Bode and Gabriella (Stephanie Arcila) revealed their feelings for each other, but there was more trouble ahead for the show’s lead character. Bode’s drug test came back positive, which means that he’s staring down the possibility of a return to prison and the loss of a chance at an early release. Season 2 will likely follow up on Bode’s situation after the Fire Country season 1 ending.

In terms of how many episodes Fire Country season 2 will consist of, given the impact of the strikes on the typical fall TV schedule, that is less clear. In the same interview with Deadline, a 13-episode season is likely, but that is under the assumption that the actors’ strike will conclude soon. However, actors continue to negotiate for a fairer contract. At the time of this writing, the actors’ strike remains ongoing.

If it is the case that Fire Country season 2 has 13 episodes rather than the typical 22-episode season, that could mean a sharper and more precise focus on the drama’s key storylines. Considering the drama’s success with talks already of spinoffs, a shorter and more focused second installment could be more beneficial to the show in the long run.
