In Final Fantasy: XIV, players may want to obtain the newly added Blue-Footed Booby Minion. Once players have a Minion, they will act as a small companion who follows the player around on their adventures. There are different Minions available, and each have a unique visual style and idle animations. The Blue-Footed Booby Minion is a small white bird with blue feet and a blue beak that will perch on the player’s shoulder as they explore the vast world.
Unlike most other Minions in Final Fantasy: XIV, the Blue-Footed Booby Minion cannot be found from NPC vendors, a raid drop, or just roaming randomly throughout the world. In order to find this new friend, players will need to complete the Waterside Exploration quests. More specifically, players will need to prioritize the Waterside Exploration quest XXVIII. Players should claim these quests on their Retainer. Of note, players will need to have at least one of their Retainers set as a fisherman in order to complete this quest. If players do not already have a fisherman, they will need to change their class, which also resets their level. With the level reset, players will need to grind additional levels for their Retainer before they are at a high enough level to complete the Waterside Exploration quest XXVIII.
Players should expect their Retainer to return after 18 hours with the rewards of the completed quest in Final Fantasy: XIV. While this is the only way to obtain the Blue-Footed Booby Minion, it is not guaranteed that the Retainer will return with this small feathered companion. Alternatively, players can find a Blue-Footed Booby Minion by purchasing one from the Market Board. In addition to the Blue-Footed Booby Minion, players may find a large variety of Minions for sale. Because of their popularity, players should expect to pay a significant amount of Gil if they hope to purchase one.
How to Use Minions in FFXIV
Minions are exclusively cosmetic and do not have any additional functionality. As an Independent Minion, the Blue-Footed Booby Minion will travel with the player, but it will roam around when the player is idle. For the Lord of Verminion update in Final Fantasy: XIV, a battle strategy game was added for Minions. In this mini-game, the Blue-Footed Booby Minion has the special action Soar, which is an enchantment that changes action party auto-attacks to area of effect attacks. This will last for twelve seconds and has a point total of 20. The small bird has 550 Health Points, 55 Attack, and 55 Defense in the mini-game.
Of note, players can only equip one Minion at a time, but they can freely change between Minions. Players can use the Minion Whistle to summon their companion, and subsequently, they can select a Minion from the Actions and Traits menu. Players can also use this menu to remove their Minion presently equipped to accompany them. Additionally, if a player dies during a battle with a Minion equipped, they may need to re-summon their Final Fantasy: XIV companion to their side once they respawn. In addition to the Blue-Footed Booby Minion, the Wind-Up Ragnarok Minion and the Teacup Kapikulu Minion also were added to the roster.
