The first trailer for Fifty Shades Freed has been released, promising more of the same and a thriller vibe. The brief teaser shows that Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey have now reached the point in their relationship where they’re getting married. Although after the wedding is when couples are usually expected to begin settling down, the teaser makes it clear that the drama will only be reaching new heights in the conclusion to the trilogy.
The past movies and the E.L. James books on which they are based upon have been controversial due to how they depict the relationship between Anastasia and Christian, with some fearing the romanticized BDSM sets confused relationship expectations. Regardless, both Fifty Shades of Grey and Fifty Shades Darker have been extremely popular in print and on screen; the first film is not only one of the highest grossing R-rated movies ever, but also one of the biggest films made by a female director. As such, Fifty Shades Freed will very likely be getting a lot of attention as well this February.

Getting the franchise’s many evident fans prepped for one last trip to the red room, Universal has dropped a short teaser for the film. You can check it out above.
As is expected of the franchise at this point, the teaser is heavy on the steamy scenes that made the series so infamous to begin with. But we also see new, deeper developments between Anastasia and Christian: one scene has Anastasia discovering a gun hidden in a desk drawer; other brief flashes show what appears to be Christian armed, as well as Anastasia firing blindly after having been knocked to the ground. And, of course, teaser ends with Ana having a knife pressed up against her throat.
The full trailer will be coming out this November, so fans don’t have to wait too long to get a better look at what to expect in the finale. The previous films have primarily been marketed as romantic movies, but Fifty Shades Freed seems to be tapping into the thriller genre with its more action-packed teaser that has given us our first glimpse of the movie.
“I promise to trust, and respect you,” Christian promises Anastasia as they prepare to get married, “and to keep you safe for as long as we both shall live.” The teaser for Fifty Shades Freed looks like Christian’s vows will certainly be put to the test.
