A new trailer for Fear the Walking Dead season 8, episode 9, “Sanctuary,” reveals the return of Dwight and Sherry as they travel to a familiar location from the original show. The couple were last seen following the death of their son Finch, unsure if they would stay together after what happened. So far, they haven’t had a role to play in Madison’s ongoing feud with Troy over PADRE.
Now, The Walking Dead (via WotNot) has released a trailer for the newest episode of Fear the Walking Dead season 8, teasing Dwight and Sherry’s return.
The teaser shows the pair have returned to the Sanctuary, the home base of Negan’s Saviors from The Walking Dead seasons 7 and 8. Sherry is seen in grave danger as Dwight fights a group of survivors.
What The Sanctuary’s Return Means For Fear The Walking Dead Season 8
Following Negan’s defeat and the disbanding of the Saviors in The Walking Dead, the Sanctuary has sat empty for close to eight years in the franchise’s timeline. Now that Dwight and Sherry have returned, it appears they are trying to find a new life closer to their original home in Virginia. This means Troy’s survival in Fear the Walking Dead may not play a major role in the end of their stories.
The couple is clearly in danger, which could result in one of their deaths as the spinoff comes to a close. However, due to how much the pair have been throughout two different series, the show may give them a well-earned happy ending. The perilous dangers they suffer upon returning to the Sanctuary after so long could result in them coming back together after Finch’s death.
It’s also possible Fear the Walking Dead will tie into another spinoff by having Dwight and Sherry set up permanent residence in Virginia again. The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon teased a returning character had settled into the established communities after Daryl left to find Rick. This new character may be Dwight, who has been welcomed back into the world that’s been built in his absence. Whatever happens, it’s clear this next episode will focus on his journey with his wife, perhaps giving a proper ending to their long journey.
