Fear City: New York vs The Mafia Trailer Details Decades-Long Battle For NYC

Netflix released the trailer for its upcoming docuseries Fear City: New York vs The Mafia. In 2020, Netflix has released their fair share of buzzy docuseries, like the hit Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness, and the latest docuseries, Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich. From the producers of the 2019 Netflix docuseries, Don’t F**k With Cats: Hunting an Internet Killer, Fear City offers another true-crime story.

The first trailer for Fear City chronicles New York City in the 70s and 80s when five powerful Mafia families controlled everything — Bonanno, Colombo, Gambino, Genovese, and Lucchese. The docuseries will tell the story of the FBI investigation that eventually brought them down, which included everything from informants to wiretaps.

The trailer features multiple interviews with investigators, mobsters, and even former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani. There’s also a quick mention of President Donald Trump in one of the previously unheard surveillance recordings. While all the footage is real, it is certainly reminiscent of the iconic mob movies of the 70s and 90s.

Fear City: New York vs The Mafia‘s synopsis reads: Through interviews with dozens of law enforcement officials, ex-mafia associates, and others, FEAR CITY: NEW YORK vs. THE MAFIA sheds light on how the mafia’s control of unions, high-rise construction, and other industries netted billions for organized crime. Previously unheard surveillance recordings, news footage, and archival material alongside new interviews and reenactments paint a shocking and captivating portrait of this “Golden Era of the Mob.” Fear City premieres July 22 on Netflix.
