Fast & Furious: Every Car Luke Hobbs Drives In The Movies

Luke Hobbs was a latecomer to the Fast & Furious franchise, but he had a handful of opportunities to get behind the wheel of some memorable cars. Portrayed by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Hobbs made his series debut in 2011’s Fast Five as an enemy-turned-ally of Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker). After emerging as a fan-favorite, Johnson led the franchise’s first spinoff, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, alongside Jason Statham in his portrayal as Deckard Shaw.

When Hobbs joined the Fast & Furious series, he was a Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) agent assigned to investigate the deaths of DEA agents. Hobbs’ search took him to Brazil, where he got involved in the country’s corruption. Initially chasing after Dom and Brian, Hobbs later allied with their group and remained on the frontlines in key missions across the globe. Hobbs eventually decided to take some time away from the DSS to focus on raising his young daughter, but he could never stay away from high stakes conflict for too long.

The Fast & Furious franchise transformed with the release of Fast Five, and it was no coincidence that the installment featured the addition of Johnson in a key role. Hobbs’ role helped change the Fast & Furious movies for the better, increasing the level of action sequences and bringing another blockbuster star into the fold. It didn’t hurt that Hobbs didn’t shy away from using unorthodox vehicles. That said, here’s every vehicle used by Johnson’s character in the franchise thus far.

Gurkha LAPV

Fast & Furious: Every Car Luke Hobbs Drives In The Movies

When Hobbs made his debut in Fast Five, the character was given one of the most intimidating vehicles possible. As a DSS agent, the enormous human of a man drove a Gurkha LAPV. Hobbs and his team used the armored military vehicle to drive around Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, as they sought Dom and his crew. When Hernan Reyes’ men ambushed Hobbs’ team, Dom’s group put their lives on the line to help the DSS agents. When Hobbs realized that the group was trying to take down a corrupt Brazilian business person, he volunteered to assist in their mission to steal Reyes’ bank vault. As part of the complicated heist, Hobbs received assistance from Elena Neves and used his Gurkha LAPV to knock down the wall leading to the vault. Dom and Brian then used their cars to pull the vault out of the building, leading to a chase through Rio.

Navistar MXT

Hobbs returned in Fast & Furious 6, which primarily featured the character using a Navistar MXT. Hobbs was first seen behind the wheel of the large truck when he arrived at the convoy attack in Moscow, Russia. The DSS agent recruited Dom and his crew to help track down Owen Shaw, who happened to be working with Letty Ortiz at the time. After Shaw’s team performed a heist on Interpol HQ, Hobbs used the Navistar MXT to chase them around the streets of London. He had no trouble brushing off police cars, but when it came to Shaw’s flip car, Hobbs had no choice but to jump out of his own vehicle to reach his enemy. It was never revealed what happened to the Navistar MXT.

International 4000-Series Ambulance

Fast & Furious

Hobbs spent most of Furious 7 in a hospital room after a violent run-in with Owen Shaw’s brother, Deckard, at the beginning of the movie. When Dom’s crew battled Deckard and a terrorist named Mose Jakande in Downtown Los Angeles, Hobbs broke out of the hospital to assist his allies. To get to the location of the action, Hobbs stole an International 4000-series ambulance, driving it off of a bridge to destroy a UAV drone in mid-air. The ambulance was badly wrecked, but Hobbs managed to use a gun to shoot at Jakande’s helicopter.

Land Rover Defender

Fast & Furious

In The Fate of the Furious‘ first action sequence, Hobbs enlisted help from Dom, Letty, Roman, Tej, and Ramsey to retrieve a stolen EMP device from a military outpost in Berlin. Hobbs used a dark-colored Land Rover Defender to carry out the mission while the others drove grey Dodge Challenger Demons. The group was successful until Dom shockingly crashed into Hobbs’ vehicle to steal the EMP device for cyberterrorist Cipher. Because of the wreck, Hobbs was arrested and taken to the same high-security prison that housed Deckard Shaw.

International MXT

Fast & Furious

Mr. Nobody later let Hobbs and Shaw out of prison, recruiting them both to find Dom to take down Cipher. Hobbs reunited with the others in New York City, where Dom headed for a special mission. Little Nobody gave the team access to a warehouse that held dozens of vehicles at the ready. Hobb’s fittingly chose an International MXT truck with a digital camo paint job. Hobbs and the team managed to corner Dom on the city streets, holding his car in place using grappling hooks. Dom then freed himself by targeting their cars one-by-one before he allowed himself to escape.

Dodge Ice Ram

Fast & Furious

Following the encounter in New York City, the group turned their sights to Russia to thwart Cipher’s plan to commandeer a  submarine to use its nuclear missiles. Hobbs drove a Dodge Ram truck converted with treads instead of tires to travel on the ice. The behemoth of a vehicle also had a roll cage, armored plating, and a plow, which came in handy to push aside Russian troops. Hobbs also used the truck to push a moving torpedo into an enemy vehicle before Dom rejoined his team by turning the tables on Cipher.

Vehicles Driven By Dwayne Johnson In Hobbs & Shaw

Fast & Furious

To follow in the Fast & Furious franchise’s footsteps, Hobbs & Shaw featured a handful of extremely noteworthy cars. Hobbs was never one to drive flashy cars, siding with something with strength rather than speed. The same mindsight went into the spinoff film, seeing as Hobbs tended to get behind the wheel of vehicles with brute power. Here’s everything Johnson drove in Hobbs & Shaw:

  • 1981 Ford Bronco – Hobbs used a Ford Bronco as his everyday vehicle while driving around Los Angeles before the CIA recruited him for a special mission.
  • Harley-Davidson Softail GTB – Before leaving Los Angeles, Hobbs used his customized Harley-Davidson to threaten a few bad guys at a local tattoo parlor.
  • 2020 Jeep Gladiator – Hobbs used the silver Jeep pickup truck when he brought Shaw and Hattie to his family’s home in Samoa.
  • MAN KAT1 – The off-road high-mobility truck was taken from the Moscow base so that Hobbs, Shaw, and Hattie could escape with a device that could potentially extract the deadly virus threatening the latter.
  • 1966 Peterbilt Truck – Hobbs and Shaw used the modified semi-truck for the spinoff’s final action-packed sequence.
