The Fast & Furious movies don’t get enough credit for their incredible ability to keep their fans hooked for sequels to come. F9, in particular, shed so much light on previously unanswered questions that its follow-up is now set up extremely well, as there were more than a few major revelations throughout Dom’s latest adventure.
The story overall had to do with the reappearance of Jakob Toretto in Dominic’s life, with the former seemingly taking down Mr. Nobody in pursuit of the Aries device. The return of other characters like Han, Mia, Sean Boswell, and Cipher also delivered a number of details relevant to the series’ plot, and it’s worth recapping what all of these are.
Brian O’Conner Is Still Alive And Well
It was never stated what exactly became of Brian in The Fate of the Furious other than that he and Mia were out of the dangerous life. However, some speculated Brian may have died, as Dom named his son in tribute to him.
F9 puts this theory to rest with the reveal that Brian is alive and well, since he appeared at the end of the movie to join the others in the family dinner. Before that, Mia had also taken Dom’s son to be with Brian and their kids, showing that he now prefers to be out of the action.
The Truth About Jack Toretto’s Demise
The death of Jack Toretto was brought up as far back as the first movie, with the story arc of Dom and Jakob showing what really led to his death. F9 finally confirmed how Jack died, as it turned out that he had told Jakob to sabotage his race car in the hopes that he could claim the insurance on the damage.
However, the car went awry and Jack ended up getting killed, meaning he was responsible for his own demise as things spiraled into a freak accident. Fans now have the complete backstory of the Toretto family and how Dom ended up becoming a criminal in the first place.
Han Is A Father/Guardian
Han was one of the characters who appeared in both the original and reboot Fast & Furious movies and chronologically, he was supposed to have died in Tokyo Drift. While his survival was already teased in trailers, the reason for his “death” was revealed in the movie.
As it is, Han had become the guardian of Elle, whose DNA was the key to unlocking the Aries device. Han came to consider Elle as his adoptive daughter, and for her survival, he opted to fake his own demise so that the two of them could disappear.
What Became Of Sean Boswell And His Friends
Sean Boswell was the lead in Tokyo Drift, and he returned for a cameo in Furious 7. However, the latter appearance took place just minutes after the events of Tokyo Drift, making it ambiguous as to where Sean and his friends were in the present day.
F9 brought these guys back to establish their current status, with Sean and his friends now having moved away from the Drift King stuff in Tokyo to working at an airbase in Germany. The end saw them become part of Dom’s extended family and reestablish themselves in Los Angeles.
The Reason For Jakob’s Estrangement From Dom & Mia
The reveal of Jakob being another sibling of Dom and Mia served as a way of showing how much Dom’s character had changed over the years, as it turned out that he was the one who had exiled his brother and refused to talk about him.
Not only that, but the true reason why Jakob didn’t stay in touch with Mia – who had attempted to track him down – was due to the fact that he became one of Mr. Nobody’s agents and continued in this role for years until he went rogue.
It’s Possible To Reach Space Through A Car In This Universe
The rules of physics don’t apply to the Fast & Furious universe, as has been seen in scenes where Luke Hobbs holds down a helicopter with one arm in the Hobbs & Shaw spin-off. F9 also showed that science can similarly be subverted where spaceships are concerned.
The movie had Tej and Roman shoot off into the sky by utilizing a car strapped to a rocket, which was good enough for them to enter space and survive there long enough for them to later be rescued by astronauts and returned to Earth.
There Are Many Powerful Devices That Cipher Can Still Access
In The Fate of the Furious, Cipher was revealed to be the mastermind behind the events of the sixth and seventh movies, as she had hired the villains to procure devices like the God’s Eye. In F9, however, the Aries device was something that Otto and Jakob were after, meaning there were weapons that weren’t under Cipher’s radar.
This proves that there are many other devices that Cipher can pursue in future movies as it was earlier believed that she had tracked all down. It also means that coming storylines are more than likely to be about Cipher using new devices to target Dom and his crew.
Giselle Worked For Mr. Nobody
In the past, Giselle’s history wasn’t touched upon that much, with merely a few hints thrown around that she had seen action before being part of Dom’s team. In F9, Mr. Nobody confirmed that she was part of his team of agents during the flashback sequence with Han.
He also voiced his disbelief that she died for love, as she had been one of the most dangerous agents he had in his team. Mr. Nobody first appeared in Furious 7, but it turns out he knew about Dom’s team due to his earlier association with Giselle.
Han Has Targeted Shaw The Whole Time
Despite never having officially met, Han and Deckard Shaw were connected to one another due to Shaw’s act of “killing” Han in Tokyo Drift. The stinger in F9 turned the perception of Han hiding from Shaw around however, as he turned up to confront Deckard.
The reason for this will no doubt be revealed in full in Fast 10, but it’s now known that Han was never afraid of Shaw and had him in his sights the whole time. Moreover, Han has known how to track Shaw as well, as seen when he was the one to approach the latter.
Mr. Nobody Was Aware That Shaw And Jakob Would Come For Dom
Furious 7 made it appear as if Mr. Nobody only enlisted Dom due to Shaw’s revenge mission against him. However, F9 revealed that Mr. Nobody was aware that this would happen and saw it as a way to pit Dom against Jakob, as Shaw’s rampage would bring Dom into the limelight.
As Jakob was one of Mr. Nobody’s former agents, he came to know about Dom at this time as well, making it inevitable that they would face off. To this end, Mr. Nobody was always aware that Shaw and Jakob would both gun for Dom eventually.
