Fast & Furious 10 Officially Casts Jason Momoa

Following reports that the Aquaman star was in talks to star in the action sequel, Fast & Furious 10 officially casts Jason Momoa for an unknown role. Plot details are currently unknown on the upcoming installment in Universal’s action franchise, though the film will serve as the first in a two-part story to close out the mainline Fast & Furious series. Original cast members Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris and Sung Kang are all slated to return for Fast & Furious 10, alongside newer series vet Nathalie Emmanuel.

Fast & Furious 10 will also see the return of Justin Lin to direct both parts of the finale, marking his sixth time behind the camera for the franchise after joining with The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and initially departing with Fast & Furious 6. He most recently came back with F9: The Fast Saga, which marked the first time franchise scribe Chris Morgan didn’t pen the script, with Lin instead co-writing with Daniel Casey, but the upcoming installment will see Morgan return to write. Production on Fast & Furious 10 is gearing up to begin this spring and fans of the franchise have an exciting new face joining the roster.

On the heels of word breaking of negotiations, the official Fast & Furious Twitter account has confirmed that Jason Momoa has joined the cast of Fast & Furious 10. The post celebrated Momoa’s casting by welcoming the Aquaman star to the “Fast Fam” as it “keeps getting bigger.” Check out the casting announcement below:

The official Fast & Furious 10 casting of Momoa comes just hours after reports first began surfacing that the action star was in final negotiations to join the sequel. Sources previously reported that Momoa was eyeing one of the villain roles in the movie, though some reports also noted that the script is still in its early stages and that his role could end up being somewhere between antagonist and protagonist. Given Momoa’s turn towards more protagonist leading performances in recent years, namely his aquatic DC Extended Universe hero and the Apple TV+ series See, the prospect of seeing him take on a villain in the Fast & Furious franchise has sparked some excitement in audiences.

With Dwayne Johnson refusing Vin Diesel’s requests for Hobbs to return for Fast & Furious 10, some have also taken to joking on social media that the franchise star and producer has sought out Momoa to become the new Samoan face of the mainline movies. Additionally, with John Cena having joined F9: The Fast Saga as Dominic Toretto’s long-lost brother Jakob, fans on social media have taken to theorizing whose family member Momoa could be playing in the new film, including a previously unmentioned brother of Michelle Rodriguez’s Letty. Only time will tell what to expect from Momoa’s franchise debut when Fast & Furious 10 hits theaters on May 19, 2023.
