‘Fast Five’ Image – Vin Diesel vs. Dwayne Johnson

Tomorrow brings the Fast Five trailer to your computer screens, but today we have an official image from the film to wet your appetite.

I’m sure the ladies more than the fellas will appreciate the sight of two of cinema’s leading tough guys – Vin Diesel and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson – standing face to face ready to throw down; for us guys, the photo hints that Fast Five is going to feature just as much action outside the fleet of sleek cars as it will behind the wheel.

For those who don’t know, here’s the Fast Five official synopsis:

Vin Diesel and Paul Walker lead a reunion of returning all-stars from every chapter of the explosive franchise built on speed in Fast Five. In this installment, former cop Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) partners with ex-con Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) on the opposite side of the law. Dwayne Johnson joins returning favorites Jordana Brewster, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Matt Schulze, Tego Calderon and Don Omar for this ultimate high-stakes race.

Since Brian and Mia Toretto (Brewster) broke Dom out of custody, they’ve blown across many borders to elude authorities. Now backed into a corner in Rio de Janeiro, they must pull one last job in order to gain their freedom. As they assemble their elite team of top racers, the unlikely allies know their only shot of getting out for good means confronting the corrupt businessman who wants them dead. But he’s not the only one on their tail.

Hard-nosed federal agent Luke Hobbs (Johnson) never misses his target. When he is assigned to track down Dom and Brian, he and his strike team launch an all-out assault to capture them. But as his men tear through Brazil, Hobbs learns he can’t separate the good guys from the bad. Now, he must rely on his instincts to corner his prey…before someone else runs them down first.

Below you can check out the image of Diesel and Johnson (pretty hilarious name for a duo, BTW 😉 ) getting all machismo on one another.

Am I the only one who can practically hear Diesel’s growling Dom Toretto voice? “You wanna take me in? You’ll have to total me first!” Oh yeah… allusions to hot rods, testosterone-fueled braggadocio – everything you could want in an entry from The Fast and the Furious library.

I’ve admitted before that these films are a guilty pleasure of mine. Those who read my review know that I felt that the last film, Fast & Furious, got the franchise back on some stable legs after the slight misfires that were 2 Fast 2 Furious and Tokyo Drift. I especially like that Fast Five is going to incorporate a lot of the characters and…er, “mythos” that has been established thus far, and having Johnson onboard as a pissed off bounty hunter speeding around in an armored Humvee… well… things could be (and have been) a lot worse.

Check back tomorrow for the Fast Five trailer and keep your eyes peeled in the coming weeks for exclusive reports from our visit to the set of the movie.

Fast Five revs into theaters on April 29, 2011.
