Far Cry’s Best Villain May Return To Series Soon, According To Voice Actor

The best Far Cry villain may make a return to the series soon, according to the actor who voiced him. The series has had a wealth of success – with a myriad of villains – since its first release in 2004 when original developer, Crytek, debuted their CryEngine software. After the first Far Cry’s success, Ubisoft obtained the rights to the franchise and has since given primary development duties to Ubisoft Montreal. The series has traveled all the way back to the most primal days of humanity, when mankind hunted with spears instead of rifles, and mammoths instead of just deer.

The franchise’s most recent installment, Far Cry New Dawn, is set in a post-apocalyptic world where players take control of nuclear war survivors. The game is set seventeen years after 2018’s Far Cry 5 and acts as a direct sequel to that title. From dealing with a player-character suffering from Malaria to bandaging wounds in which bones pierce one’s skin, the franchise is known for some gritty, niche elements woven into tried and true RPG mechanics in an open world.

During a Reddit AMA, actor Michael Mando – who portrays Nacho in AMC’s Better Call Saul – expressed how much he enjoyed voicing Vaas in Far Cry 3 and said he may “reprise the role very soon.” The actor also suggested that Vaas is his spirit animal and said, “having co-created that character is something that will always be dear to me.” Mando also mentioned that he still gets recognized as Vaas frequently.

Many fans commenting on the thread expressed their love for Far Cry 3 as the best game in the franchise, with some lamenting their neglect at having played it but desiring to do so just knowing Mando voiced the game’s lead villain. Comments then turned away from the actor himself and delved into what made Far Cry 3 so great, from the game’s soundtrack to the mechanics and other content – such as burning a marijuana field and watching the player-character get high in the process.

Far Cry 3 may be arguably the most popular game in the franchise, but its sales were still exceeded by 2018’s Far Cry 5 despite fans’ mixed feelings about the characters and story. With the rumors surrounding Far Cry 6, it’s possible that fans of the franchise’s third installment could get some nostalgia to rekindle their love for the series, with some even saying the next title should learn from Far Cry 5 and Far Cry New Dawn.

The Far Cry franchise debuted in 2004 and has been available on PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Wii.
