Far Cry 6 Senior Designer Departs Ubisoft

One of the senior designers for Far Cry 6 has announced their departure from Ubisoft. Far Cry 6 is due to release later this year, and it is already touted as one of the most anticipated games of 2021. Starring Giancarlo Esposito from both Breaking Bad and The Mandalorian as antagonist Antón Castillo, Far Cry 6 is set to take place on the fictional Caribbean island of Yara. Players will take on the mantle of Dani Rojas, as they attempt to take down the dictatorship of Castillo.

The development of Far Cry 6 has not been a smooth ride for Ubisoft. Along with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, the game was the subject of leaks even before it was officially announced at a Ubisoft Forward event in 2020. Then, the developers had to delay the release of Far Cry 6 out of the first quarter of 2021 to ensure that the final product is a game that fans actually “aspire to play”. Given the backlash that other high-profile games such as Cyberpunk 2077 have faced for releasing before they were ready, however, this was probably a smart move by Ubisoft, even though the news was a disappointment for eager fans.

The latest news surrounding Far Cry 6’s development is that its senior designer, Marc McGinley, has left Ubisoft. Sharing the announcement with his followers on Twitter, McGinley commented that it has “been a pleasure to have worked with so many talented folks across a number of brands” and that he will miss his Far Cry family. It is unclear how this statement will affect the development of Far Cry 6 going forward. Whatever McGinley chooses to do next in his career, though, it is clear that many wish him well, with notes of support and kind words following his announcement.

The lack of any additional new news surrounding the game itself, however, has caused some concern amongst the Far Cry community. Most recently, the developers had to deal with a scam circulating the internet, that appeared to offer fans the chance to be part of a Fry Cry 6 beta test. The revelation of this scam was another blow to those that had hoped that the reports of an apparent beta for the game were a sign that a more definitive release date was imminent.

With the announcement of McGinley’s departure as well as the aforementioned scam, Ubisoft will no doubt want to reassure their fans on the status of Far Cry 6 soon. It would be prudent to do so, as speculation can cause a lot of unnecessary hurt and disappointment, for fans as well as the developers themselves.

Far Cry 6 is in development for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S platforms, but official release date details presently remain under wraps.
