Far Cry 5’s GoldenEye Levels Are Back With A New Name

An incredibly talented fan managed to remake GoldenEye 007 maps in Far Cry 5’s level editor; though Ubisoft and MGM recently removed the builds, the creator uploaded them once more using a different name. The modder responsible for the remade GoldenEye 007 levels, Reddit user Krollywood, spent more than two years bringing the classic maps to life in Far Cry 5 on PS4.

Krollywood went the extra mile, too, utilizing Far Cry 5’s map editor to develop every single one of the 18 single-player levels featured in the beloved Nintendo 64 experience. The remade creations included no shortage of stunning details, which eagle-eyed fans could scour in search of cleverly placed Easter eggs and the like. Unfortunately, the fun didn’t last for long. At the behest of MGM, the production studio that partly owns James Bond, Far Cry publisher Ubisoft pulled the GoldenEye 007 levels down. Krollywood hasn’t given up, however.

Despite the takedown by Ubisoft and MGM, Krollywood brought the GoldenEye 007 levels back to Far Cry 5 on PC and PS4 platforms, with Xbox One versions expected to drop at a later date. The creator noted as much in a follow-up post on Reddit, wherein they said the re-uploaded maps now boast a new name – GoldenCry – and contain some Bond-related changes. As DSOGaming posits, said changes most likely include the removal of direct references to the 007 brand.

While it may seem as though the creator of the maps found a loophole, there is presently no guarantee that MGM and Ubisoft won’t once again delete the GoldenEye 007 homage from Far Cry 5. Fans interested in enjoying the remade levels would do well to download them as soon as possible.

Far Cry 5’s map-making tools have been the talk of the town for the last several weeks, following news that Far Cry 6 won’t feature a map editor. In addition, Ubisoft confirmed the new Far Cry  will similarly lack an Arcade Mode, yet another feature that proved immensely popular among Far Cry 5 fans. It’s no surprise, then, that players have flocked to the editor embedded in the 2018 installment, building everything from The Mandalorian’s Razor Crest and Animal Crossing’s Resident Services to Greggs sandwich shop and Link’s house from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Far Cry 5 is out on PC, PS4, and Xbox One platforms.
