Fallout 76 Trailer: A Prequel 4 Times Bigger Than Any Other Fallout

Update: Fallout 76 will have no NPCs, only players, but will support mods eventually.

Fallout 76 may have come as something of a shock announcement when the game was unveiled with a teaser trailer last month, but now fans of the series have a much better idea of what to expect thanks to Bethesda’s E3 2018 showing. The game was initially let loose upon the world after a long tease, with the company then releasing an inaugural trailer that gave but a glimpse of the game in question.

Immediately, tongues were wagging, and before long a scant few details were revealed about the title. Unlike previous games in the Fallout franchise, Fallout 76 was going to be an online survival game with RPG elements, moving away from the pure single player gameplay of the core series. As such, many were waiting to see more of what Bethesda had planned with the title.

Thankfully, the wait was always going to be a short one. After its sudden reveal, Fallout 76 was set to make up a significant portion of the publisher’s E3 2018 press conference, and the outcome didn’t disappoint, with a much better look at how the game is going to operate – and more. The full trailer can be seen at the top of this article.

The trailer gives a much better context for the game, although perhaps mainly focuses on what fans had been able to put together from the details given. Perhaps of most interest to gamers will be the much more vibrant game world this time around, with the title’s West Virginia setting much less devastated than the Capital Wasteland and the ruins of Boston in Fallout 3 and Fallout 4. This no doubt plays into the game’s prequel setting, and certainly ties into the game’s focus on rebuilding civilization.

A little more was also revealed about the game world after the trailer finished its run. Fallout 76 will apparently have a game map four times bigger than that seen in any other Fallout game. Of course, sheer miles on a map aren’t everything, but hopefully Bethesda will be able to fill that space with both enough deep content to keep fans occupied and enough flexibility for the map to be shaped around player choices. Who knows, maybe there’s even space for some slightly scarier vaults than Vault 76 to be discovered.

At the moment, there are still plenty of fan questions that have not been answered. But with Bethesda’s own E3 press conference on the way, there will undoubtedly be further details around this game to be revealed. Watch this space.
