Falcon & The Winter Soldier: Who Would Bucky’s 10 Phone Numbers Be?

In The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) doesn’t have 10 phone numbers listed in his cell phone contacts, but if he did, who would they be? Bucky AKA The Winter Soldier reunites with Sam Wilson AKA The Falcon (Anthony Mackie) in their own Disney+ series. The two best friends of Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) will team up to explore what superheroism means in the politically-charged, post-Avengers: Endgame world.

Bucky is still in recovery from his decades when he was brainwashed as the Hydra assassin dubbed the Winter Soldier. Now back in Brooklyn – 80 years after he left home to fight in World War II – Barnes is in therapy as he tries to make amends for his crimes as the Winter Soldier. This means either exposing Hydra agents he helped install in high-level positions or trying to find a way to apologize to the family of his victims. But Bucky’s progress isn’t impressing his therapist, Dr. Raynor (Amy Aquino). In The Falcon and The Winter Soldier‘s premiere, she chastized Barnes for not keeping up his friendships. The psychiatrist also noted that Bucky doesn’t even have 10 phone numbers in his cell phone.

Now that Bucky is back in the U.S. and living as a free man, he’s likely no longer considered a fugitive in violation of the Sokovia Accords. Sadly, the Winter Soldier is a man out of time and he has few real friends, even among the Avengers. But if Bucky did have 10 phone numbers in his contact list, these are the most likely candidates (though some are not necessarily people the Winter Soldier would want to speak to). There are also some people who may not want to give Bucky their numbers, however – like Leah (Miki Ishikawa), who Barnes left on their date without explanation.

Sam Wilson

Dr. Raynor saw that Sam Wilson texts Bucky regularly, but Barnes hasn’t answered, so it’s clear they can find each other when they need to. Of course, Sam and Bucky will see action together in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, so it’s a no-brainer that Wilson is on Bucky’s contact list.

Steve Rogers

Steve Rogers’ true whereabouts are thus far unconfirmed in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. But if Steve is still alive, then there’s little doubt Bucky would have his oldest (and only real) friend’s phone number. The Winter Soldier would know how to contact Captain America and vice versa.

Dr. Raynor

Dr. Raynor is confirmed that she is on Bucky’s contacts list and that she was the only person he called the week they met in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier’s premiere. Of course, theirs’ is a professional relationship and she’s not Bucky’s friend, so calling Dr. Raynor doesn’t count for Bucky maintaining his friendships.

Yori Nakajima

Yori Nakajima (Ken Takemoto) is Bucky’s Brooklyn neighbor but he’s also the father of one of the Winter Soldier’s victims. Since Bucky has cultivated a close relationship with Yori (even though he hasn’t told the old man he killed his son), Barnes very likely has Nakajima’s phone number.

Shuri/Wakanda

It’s also likely that Bucky has a direct way to contact Wakanda and specifically Shuri (Letitia Wright), who cured him of his Hydra brainwashing. Bucky also lived peacefully in Wakanda before Avengers: Infinity War, so he probably has a way to stay in touch with the African kingdom.

Jimmy Woo

While this may be a longshot, FBI Special Agent James Woo (Randall Park) seems to focus on enhanced individuals who violated the Sokovia Accords. It’s possible Jimmy is also keeping tabs on Bucky Barnes and they have a way to contact each other.

Pepper Potts/Stark Industries

It would make sense that everyone in the Avengers (or those affiliated, like Bucky) has the means to contact Stark Industries. Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) is still the CEO of Stark Industries, so either she or Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) would interact with the Winter Soldier if he called.

Nick Fury

Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) clearly had Peter Parker’s (Tom Holland) phone number in Spider-Man: Far From Home, so it can be assumed he can call any of the superheroes, including Bucky. Fury is very likely keeping tabs on everyone leading up to Secret Invasion.

Sharon Carter

Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp) hasn’t been seen since Captain America: Civil War but she was a close friend and ally of Steve Rogers. Sharon will appear in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier so the former Agent 13 could end up in Bucky’s contact list if she isn’t there already.

Secretary Ross/State Department

The U.S. State Department is probably also keeping tabs on Bucky Barnes and watching out for any resumption of his illegal activities. That could also mean that Secretary Ross (William Hurt) has the means to contact Bucky in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier – although Ross would rank high among the people Barnes would least want to hear from.
