Fable Reboot Is Being Made Using Forza Series’ Engine

Turn 10 Studios – best known for the Forza Motorsport series – is hiring, and a job listing reveals the series’ ForzaTech engine is being used for Fable 4’s development at sister studio Playground Games. While the long wait for the Fable reboot continues, Xbox Game Studios appears to be hard at work behind-the-scenes to make the long-abandoned series a proper current-gen experience.

Previously, another job listing revealed plans for the simply titled Fable indicated that Playground is building the game on a custom game engine. The posting appeared in March, expressing that potential hires should be capable of using a custom in-house engine to build the fantasy reboot. Because of Xbox Game Studios’ size, it was unknown to what specific engine Playground was referring, but many in assumed that the developer would use its own engine for Fable, especially since the developer has only previously worked on the Forza Horizon series

The job listing by Turn 10 Studios explains that prospective Microsoft software engineers will have a major impact on AAA titles across two Xbox franchises, which are assumed to be both Forza and Fable. The engineer will be essential in adding new features to ForzaTech like raytracing support for next-gen consoles, with the ultimate goal being to enrich the “toolset to support an open-world action RPG – Fable.”

Fable Reboot Is Being Made Using Forza Series’ Engine

Fable is getting plenty of support from big players across the gaming industry. It was announced that Control’s lead writer is joining the Fable reboot, and now it’s all but confirmed that the Forza engine is being used to rebuild the dormant fantasy world. Forza is known for its beautiful scenery, and it’s likely reassuring to skeptical fans to know that Playground is exclusively versed in the ForzeTech engine. Though it’s purpose-built for racing sims, engineers like those in Turn 10’s newly opened role can do impressive work to bend engines to individual game’s needs without end users being any the wiser.

The new Fable game has no release date and could potentially miss the current console generation altogether, but it’s certain that Xbox will have console exclusivity over the game when it does arrive. The Forza franchise has always run beautifully on Xbox, and Fable will likely share in that honor. Not a lot is known about Fable, however, the teaser trailer provides humor and heroism alike, indicating that the next installment will bring with it the essential components that made past Fable games so enjoyable.
