Though only works-in-progress, Roberta Ingranata’s art for Jill and the Killers #1 already communicates the sense of mystery and unease that the series is going for. Characters have obvious bonds with one another, but certain panels convey loneliness and small-town ennui. There’s also the real danger of the true crime aspect, as one of the first preview pages is of a woman trapped in a police car, about to drown. Artist Roberta Ingranata said of Jill, “It’s a compelling story, full of connections, feelings and emotional depth, with a side of gripping mystery,” which the preview begins to hint at.

Jill and the Killers is both a love letter to, and a very direct, female subversion of, the great dude-driven, coming-of-age stories I loved as a kid,” writer Olivia Cuartero-Briggs said of the upcoming series. Cuartero-Briggs is well known for Mary Shelley Monster Hunter and Silver City with Aftershock Comics, as well as writing for film and television. She is joined on ,for Oni by Roberta Ingranata, whose artist style readers will recognize from a variety of independent comic titles, including Zenescope Entertainment’s Robyn Hood and Van Helsing with, Top Cow’s Withcblade, Titan Comics’ Doctor Who.

We can’t wait for readers to unbox the first issue!” Jill and the Killers is set to inaugurate a wild, prosperous 2024 for Oni Press, making it the premiere new home for independent creative talent in comic books.
