Ewan McGregor Remembers His Worst Star Wars Moment In Tremendous Viral Fan Video

Ewan McGregor recalled the worst moment he ever had on a Star Wars set in an awesome viral fan video, and it happened while filming Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. Portraying a younger version of the popular Obi-Wan Kenobi in the prequel trilogy was no easy task. Given how beloved Alec Guinness’ version of Obi-Wan was, McGregor had big shoes to fill. He did an excellent job of capturing the wit, strength, and hilarious sarcasm that define the character. However, not every scene was easy to film.

How To Watch Star Wars Movies In Order

Here is how to watch all Star Wars movies and TV shows chronologically and in order of release, and how each fits into the Star Wars timeline.

In an interview posted to X (formerly Twitter) by Jason Pargin, McGregor spoke about what it was like to film Obi-Wan delivering Luke Skywalker to his aunt and uncle at the end of Revenge of the Sith. McGregor’s mount consisted of a green box without a gimbal, so he had to rock side to side to simulate the necessary movement. This also made mounting and dismounting awkward. Without any direction as to the location of Tatooine’s CGI moons in the sky, McGregor struggled to know where to look. To top it all off, McGregor had invited his friends to watch.

CGI Made The Star Wars Prequels An Incredible Test For Their Actors

Obi-Wan Kenobi prepares to go into the desert in Revenge of the Sith.

George Lucas has always been on the cutting edge of special effects. As such, he used a lot of computer-generated imagery (CGI) when filming the Star Wars prequel trilogy. As McGregor proves, this became a challenge for the actors. One thing that is difficult about CGI is that the actors cannot actually see the things they are interacting with. Everything around them is simply green. This can make interacting with the set difficult, as a lot of it relies on theater of the mind.

Obi-Wan Kenobi’s 10 Best Moments In Star Wars, Ranked

Obi-Wan Kenobi lies at the heart of the Star Wars franchise, and the iconic Jedi Master has had so many unforgettable moments over the years.

While there have been a lot of complaints about the appearance of the CGI in the prequel trilogy and a lot of people pointing out CGI mistakes in Star Wars, it was actually quite good for the late 1990s and early 2000s. It really isn’t fair to judge the quality of the CGI in the prequels according to the quality of the CGI available today. Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sithcame out almost 20 years ago. It’s only natural that the graphics will not look as good as they do today.

Further, it was common at that time for fantasy and science fiction movies to use a lot of CGI. Yet, the Star Wars prequels in particular seem to get a lot of hate over it. This seems to be at least in part a reaction to the general dislike of the prequel movies as a whole. However, audiences should cut Star Wars some slack and appreciate the prequel CGI for what it is.
