Ewan McGregor Gives Disappointing Update On Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2, But Still “Pretty Sure” He’ll Return Again

Obi-Wan Kenobi actor Ewan McGregor indicated in a recent interview that, although Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 isn’t likely, he may be returning to Star Wars. Ewan McGregor took up the Obi-Wan Kenobi mantle in the prequel trilogy, following Alec Guinness’ portrayal of the character in the original trilogy. Although the prequels were initially criticized, they are now considered some of Star Wars’ best movies. As one of Star Wars’ most powerful Jedi and a beloved character, Obi-Wan Kenobi is a key part of that popularity, which undoubtedly contributed to Star Wars‘ decision to give Obi-Wan Kenobi his own show.

Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2: News, Updates, & Everything We Know

Is Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 happening? Here’s everything we know about a potential second season starring Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan.

Now, in an interview with LADbible, Ewan McGregor indicated that even after the Obi-Wan Kenobi show, he doesn’t believe he’s done playing Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars. McGregor explained his passion for the role in addition to his positivity about Obi-Wan’s future. Although McGregor also indicated that Obi-Wan Kenobi was a limited series, suggesting that Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 is indeed off the table, this was a promising update.

I love doing it. I hope we get a chance to do another one and I’m sure we will. I’m pretty sure, you know, I’ve got a few years yet before I’m the same age as Alec Guinness was in A New Hope. So there’s time to tell more stories in there.

There’s Always A Future For Star Wars Actors

Star Wars has proven time and again that even death can’t stop the return of fan-favorite characters. Be it Force ghosts, surprise resurrections, or playing with the Star Wars timeline, Star Wars actors should never say with certainty that they won’t be back. Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen in particular are both excellent examples of that.

When the Star Wars prequel trilogy ended, few believed McGregor and Christensen would reprise their roles; Christensen has said as much. However, in recent years, the prequels have had something of a renaissance. Now, Star Wars audiences seem quite eager to see the return of Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and other prequel trilogy characters. With McGregor and Christensen’s returns in Obi-Wan Kenobi and Christensen’s return in Ahsoka being so celebrated, it’s not all that surprising that future appearances remain possible.

Ewan McGregor seemed fairly certain that Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 isn’t in the cards, which opens up possibilities for Obi-Wan Kenobi’s return in another story. Particularly given McGregor’s reference to age, Obi-Wan’s return could happen closer to the time of A New Hope, perhaps even shedding light upon his perspective of Leia’s distress call. After all, Obi-Wan Kenobi proved that the two had a significant history. Either way, it’s thrilling to imagine Ewan McGregor returning to Star Wars as Obi-Wan Kenobi, if not in Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2, then in another new project.
