Evil Dead Rise Trailer Teaser Reveals Deadite’s Creepy Voice

The highly-anticipated return to Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead universe is on the horizon, and now the hype train is officially underway, with Campbell releasing a teaser clip ahead of Evil Dead Rise‘s first official trailer. Raimi’s low-budget 1981 horror-comedy Evil Dead took on a life of its own after becoming a cult hit. Three more movies and one television series later, the Evil Dead property remains one of the most beloved in the horror genre thanks to Campbell’s performance as lovable oaf Ash Williams and the fun comedic beats that very few horror films or franchises have been able to replicate.Bruce Campbell tweeted a teaser clip for the next installment in the iconic franchise. Naturally, Campbell does a little riffing in the video, calling back to some memorable moments from the series. While he claims that he will not appear in the film, he confirmed in the video that his fingerprints would be all over the project as he serves as an executive producer alongside Raimi. Campbell boasted that the movie is amazing and that it is the scariest one yet. The teaser shows a little girl approaching a door and looking through the peephole to see that her mother has become a Deadite, the species of parasitic demons that seek to possess the bodies of mortals and feast on the souls of living creatures.

Everything We Know About Evil Dead Rise

Evil Dead Rise Trailer Teaser Reveals Deadite’s Creepy Voice

Evil Dead Rise is the first Evil Dead project since the conclusion of Ash vs Evil Dead. The series on Starz spanned three seasons and 30 episodes before its finale in 2018, leaving a void in Evil Dead content over the last few years. Evil Dead Rise will end that void, and information has trickled down to fans throughout the film’s development. It was initially intended to be an HBO Max exclusive, but it has since been shifted to a theatrical release. Bruce Campbell has confirmed that he will not appear in the film, but he is an executive producer on the project and has a substantial say in production decisions. One big decision was moving the Evil Dead setting to Los Angeles instead of a cabin in the woods.

The movie will star Vikings standout Alyssa Sutherland, who is seen in the teaser as a Deadite. Her young daughter, played by Nell Fisher, is also in the teaser clip that Campbell shared. The Girlfriend Experience‘s Morgan Davies and Mental‘s Lily Sullivan are also set to star in Evil Dead Rise. The movie’s story centers around sisters Beth and Ellie reuniting. Beth pays a visit to her older sister Ellie, raising three kids alone in a Los Angeles apartment. The sisters’ reunion is cut short by the discovery of the classic Evil Dead Necronomicon, giving rise to flesh-possessing demons. It appears the movie will flip the idea of motherhood on its head by introducing unthinkably horrifying variables into the family’s life.

With this new entry in the storied horror franchise, plenty of big changes are in store for Evil Dead fans. Despite some fans feeling disappointment in Bruce Campbell’s apparent absence in front of the camera, his presence behind the camera should help Evil Dead Rise maintain the same feel as its beloved predecessors. Its switch from streaming exclusive to theatrical release is equally encouraging, as it seems Warner Bros. has a lot of confidence in the project. Evil Dead Rise will hit theaters on April 21, 2023, nearly 42 years after the original film.
