Everything We Know About The Wonder Woman Game (So Far)

Everything We Know About The Wonder Woman Game (So Far)

The bold and creative world of the DC universe translates well into video games, which is why fans are excited to see what the upcoming Wonder Woman game has to offer. After the Batman: Arkham games and the hype for Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, Wonder Woman was ripe for her own adventure title.

Warner Bros. Games announced Wonder Woman with a short teaser trailer to get fans excited at DC Fandome 2021. Not much information was given but there are a few things to know about the Wonder Woman game thus far and why it could be the next big DC game gem.

Made By Monolith Productions

Continuing to expand on the roster of developers working on DC properties, Wonder Woman is being made by Monolith Productions. Most will recognize their name from the Middle-Earth: Shadow Of Mordor games that were well-received.

With Rocksteady heading the Arkhamverse including Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, NetherRealm heading Injustice, and WB Games Montreal heading to the upcoming Gotham Knights, the future seems bright for DC games.

Likely Not Part Of The Arkhamverse

As much as fans would love to see a DC gaming universe, it is unlikely that Wonder Woman will connect to the Batman: Arkham games. First off, it seems like anything Arkhamverse-related will be exclusive to Rocksteady Studios.

Second, there is quite a difference between the designs of Wonder Woman in both Monolith’s game and in Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League. There is a higher chance that Wonder Woman could be connected to Gotham Knights but it’s more than likely to be a standalone title.

No Actress Has Been Confirmed

Though the trailer gives a quick glimpse at the titular hero, no voice was heard and the face does not indicate anyone. Many talented actresses have voiced Wonder Woman and they could easily return to the role for this game.

Rosario Dawson has stood out in multiple projects playing Wonder Woman, while Susan Eisenberg is as famous for Wonder Woman as Kevin Conroy is for Batman. However, Monolith also could have found someone new to put their unique stamp on this beloved character.

Expect It To Be Next-Gen Only

After release debacles such as Cyberpunk 2077, it’s simply true that some games downgraded to previous generation consoles do not work. That’s why WB Games Montreal canceled PS4 and Xbox One releases for Gotham Knights for later this year.

Since Wonder Woman is going to be released much further down the line, it likely will get the same treatment; making it exclusive to current-generation consoles as well as PC.

Will Be Open-World

Not much was confirmed about the game when Monolith announced it in 2021 though they did state that Wonder Woman will be a single-player open-world action adventure. This shouldn’t be too surprising given the popularity of open-world games including the Batman: Arkham games.

Monolith also made their Shadow Of Mordor games into open-world adventures as well. The question remains is what will be explorable? Will fans be able to traverse cities? Travel to mystical realms? Only time will tell.

The Nemesis System Will Be Used

Talion vs Orc in Shadow of War

What is the Nemesis system? Well, it was Monolith’s big gimmick with both Shadow Of Mordor titles. It allowed for unique missions with orcs rising in ranks, becoming more powerful if they defeated Talion. Or if they died, they could come back with new dialogue, cosmetics, and their own personal rivalry with Talion.

No playthrough of those games, especially Shadow Of War, was ever identical. This is why fans were excited when Monolith confirmed that Wonder Woman will be using the Nemesis system.

Won’t Be Releasing In 2022

Considering that Wonder Woman was only announced at DC Fandome in 2021, it means one of two possibilities; Monolith has been working for a long time in secret, and Wonder Woman will make a surprise release by the end of 2022, similar to the Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy reveal.

Or in the more likely scenario, Wonder Woman won’t be released for quite a while. Even Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League was delayed to 2023, so it’s more likely that Wonder Woman is still in mid-development.

No Confirmed Villains

Even though no villains were shown off or confirmed, fans should expect more than a few famous foes from Wonder Woman’s past. Some dialogue from the trailer suggests that Diana has been an active superhero for some time and she’s likely made some enemies.

From Cheetah to Ares, there are a lot of villains that could be added to the Wonder Woman game. Different villains could also add to the Nemesis system, with certain villains able to summon or create their own armies.

Wonder Woman Returns To Themyscira

The teaser trailer was merely meant to show off that it is in fact a Wonder Woman game being made by Monolith Productions. However, there is a small hint as to what direction this game might go. In the trailer, the voice of Hippolyta can be heard calling to Diana.

“My daughter, a new threat comes to our shores and I must call you home.” That gives the idea that Wonder Woman could take place mostly or completely on the island of Themyscira, similar to the first Tomb Raider or Batman: Arkham Asylum. Given the mystical properties of Wonder Woman, Themyscira could be expanded into a micronation on a larger island, allowing for a more open world.
