Everything We Know About Far Cry 6

Far Cry is one of Ubisoft’s biggest and most successful franchises, alongside the likes of Assassin’s Creed. The series has consistently turned out interesting experiences and characters, and now it’s returning once again with Far Cry 6.

Revealed during the Ubisoft Forward presentation, Far Cry 6 sports a Caribbean setting and retains everything that Far Cry fans have come to know and love. On top of that, Ubisoft has signed on acclaimed actor Giancarlo Esposito to play Far Cry 6’s main villain.

The game is still quite a ways off from release, but Ubisoft has already shared a good amount of information. Here’s everything we know about Far Cry 6.

Far Cry 6 Release Date

Everything We Know About Far Cry 6

One of the big surprises about Far Cry 6’s reveal is that Ubisoft provided a release date right off the bat; February 18, 2021. Far Cry 6 will be released for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC, and Google Stadia. It’s unusual to see a game get an actual day and date the moment it’s announced, but keep in mind that Far Cry 6’s release date could easily be pushed back if there are development troubles related to Coronavirus and working from home.

Far Cry 6 will have a Season Pass, although the contents haven’t been revealed, as well as three different special editions, which you can see below.

  • Gold Edition – $99.99 – Includes the base game and Season Pass.
  • Ultimate Edition (PC Download only – $119.99 – Includes the base game, Season Pass, and Ultimate Pack.
  • Collector’s Edition (Pictured Above) – $199.99 – Includes the base game, Season Pass, Ultimate Pack, “Tostador” Flamethrower replica, artbook, Collector’s Case, Steelbook, sticker set, map, Chorizo keyring, and selected soundtrack.

Far Cry 6 Story

Far Cry 6 Trailer Leak Cinematic Giancarlo Esposito

Far Cry 6’s setting is a fictional Caribbean island named Yara, which is ruled by a dictator named Anton Costillo (Giancarlo Esposito), who goes by “El Presidente.” Costillo is another quirky  Far Cry villain, and he has absolute control over the island and its people. As seen in the reveal trailer, Costillo is trying to get his son, Diego, to follow in his footsteps. Far Cry 6’s reveal overwhelmingly focused on the villain, as is to be expected from the series that features iconic villains like Vaas Montenegro and Pagan Min. Although it isn’t confirmed in any way, a fan theory states that Far Cry 6 might be a prequel to Far Cry 3, and detail Vaas’ origin story. Fans have noted that Vaas and Diego have the exact same gap in their eyebrow, and share a similar skin tone as well.

On the other side of the conflict is the main character, Dani Rojas, a resistance soldier fighting Costillo’s regime. At the moment there’s very little known about the personality or history of Dani, but the protagonist can be both male and female.

Far Cry 6 Gameplay

Far Cry fans should expect more of what they know and love with Far Cry 6, as the new title doesn’t seem to be deviating from the tried-and-true gameplay formula. A few early screenshots give some hints as to some of the new gameplay features Far Cry 6 might include. The guns seen in the screenshots seem to indicate that attachments and upgrades will once again be a thing, and there’s been a particular emphasis put on the heavy-duty flamethrower. The other detail Ubisoft has shown off is an adorable puppy named Chorizo, who has a wheelchair on his back legs. A pre-order bonus for the game even comes with a skin for the dog called “Libertad Chorizo,” meaning that he probably factors into gameplay in some way.

More gameplay details for Far Cry 6 will be revealed closer to launch, but it’s likely to have the same mission-based structure as before.
