Thanks to a new Nintendo Direct celebrating Mario’s 35th Anniversary, fans have now gotten a glimpse at quite possibly the biggest Mario game to ever hit Nintendo Switch. Super Mario 3D All-Stars will be releasing September 18th, 2020. It’s a huge announcement for a huge game.
Mario games have been quite successful on the Switch. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still the best-selling game on the console, and Super Mario Odyssey is considered one of the best Mario titles ever. Even Paper Mario: The Origami King is the best-selling Paper Mario game, and it’s only been out a couple of months. So it should be no surprise that Nintendo wants to release more games starring everyone’s favorite plumber.
The upcoming Super Mario 3D All-Stars has long been rumored, despite Nintendo being fairly quiet on the subject. Social media teases from the company have added fuel to those rumors, and now they’re finally coming to fruition. Here’s a lit of all the games included in Super Mario 3D All-Stars and what changes to expect when the game arrives in a few short weeks.
What Games Are In Super Mario 3D All-Stars
The Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Direct highlighted a lot of Mario titles, but the biggest reveal was Super Mario 3D All-Stars coming out on September 18th. The game includes three beloved Mario games from the 3D-era: Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy. Super Mario 64 is considered by many to be one of the greatest Mario games of all time, and it’s great to see that it’s included in this all-in-one package.
Rumors of a Super Mario Sunshine sequel or remaster have been circulating for a while, with confirmation on the remaster happening earlier in the year, and it’s thankfully included in the new 3D All-Stars. The third title to be included, Super Mario Galaxy, was expected as a remaster as well, and it’s great that both titles will appear on Switch where a new generation of fans — as well as series veterans — will get to experience them with enhancements.
What Super Mario 3D All-Stars Changes
With a game like Super Mario 3D All-Stars, some changes are expected. Because of the rumors which have been circulating for quite a while now, some fans have already been speculating how Nintendo would handle bringing games like Super Mario Galaxy to the Switch. All games have been upgraded to HD graphics and with a 16:9 ratio, optimizations that are pretty standard these days. Still, it’s nice to see them implemented here. The games are compatible with the Switch’s motion controls, if players wish to utilize that feature. There’s also a nifty music player mode, which allows players to listen to dozens of songs off the all three games’ soundtracks. So, fans of the series’ music can now listen to their favorite tunes anytime they want.
A limited run of physical editions are available for pre-order starting today and will run through the end of March 2021, meaning it’s a great purchase for Nintendo collectors as well. With three beloved titles appearing in an all-in-one package, Super Mario 3D All-Stars is a must-buy.
