Zenless Zone Zero is an upcoming action RPG from HoYoverse, the developers behind the massively popular Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail. From what’s been shown of ZZZ so far, it looks like the game will have a lot in common with Genshin Impact – this includes a roster of playable characters that will be introduced through regular updates. The first Zenless Zone Zero trailer showed off a lot of characters, but many of these were left unnamed for now. Thankfully, HoYoverse has since confirmed the names and additional information on a number of new characters in Zenless Zone Zero that will join a player’s team for exploration of Hollows.
Players will control a character called a Proxy, a sort of stand-in protagonist that has the power to explore Hollows. These Hollows have caused a great calamity and are rifts between dimensions that will likely be where the teased roguelike elements of Zenless Zone Zero come into play. Much like the Traveler in Genshin Impact, ZZZ‘s Proxy will seemingly serve as the chosen (and likely silent) protagonist of the game. Hollows are also full of enemies called Ethereals and this will be where many of the playable characters get to shine. Proxies form their own squads inside of Hollows, all of which seems to serve as the core gameplay loop.
12 Anby Demara
The first Zenless Zone Zero character to be named is Anby Demara, a member of the Odd-Job Agency known as the Cunning Hares – or Gentle House. She loves movies but “lacks common sense,” and is known to excel in combat. However, her past is a mystery (perhaps something players will learn along the way) and she was accidentally taken in by another ZZZ character – Nicole Demara – explaining how Anby Demara joined the Cunning Hares in the first place.
Thus far, there’s not a lot of other information out there regarding Anby Demara. However, her Chinese voice actor was confirmed to be Atsumi Tanezaki, although an English VA hasn’t been revealed yet. Since she was revealed first, it’s likely Anby will be a free starter playable character in Zenless Zone Zero, if Genshin Impact‘s playable characters history is anything to go by.
11 Nicole Demara
Nicole Demara is featured a lot in the Zenless Zone Zero trailer, and it looks like she’ll play a major role in the game’s story. In addition to taking in Anby Demara (and presumably giving her the same last name), Nicole is the founder of the Cunning Hares. She uses her faction to take on missions inside Hollows.
She also knows the streets of New Eridu “like the back of her hand,” which should make her a vital ally. She has a love for money and is known for her cunning – but her attitude has gotten the Cunning Hares blacklisted by a number of clients. Her Japanese voice actor is Yu Serizawa.
10 Billy Kid
The latest character confirmed for Zenless Zone Zero is Billy Kid. He’s also from the Odd-Jobs Agency of the Cunning Hares, which may indicate the faction will serve as a place to acquire the free starter characters for players – like the Knights of Favonius in Genshin Impact.
Billy Kid is a cyborg – so he’s part robot, part human. He’s been described as carefree, handsome, and casual – and he’s also a major fan of the in-game TV show, Starlight Knight. Billy carries two custom-made high-caliber revolvers that he refers to as “the girls,” and his Japanese voice actor is confirmed to be Yuu Hayashi.
9 Nekomiya Mana
Nekomiya Mana is yet another member of the Gentle House or Cunning Hares. This Zenless Zone Zero character is described as “spirited and mischievous,” but also “athletic and daring.” In her design, Nekomiya has cat-like elements, such as tails (though she has two) and ears.
Like Anby, she is also mysterious. Nekomiya Mana seems to use a small dagger in ZZZ‘s battle, which may indicate she is something akin to a rogue in a traditional RPG setting. Here Japanese voice actor is confirmed to be Hara Sayuri.
8 Hoshimi Miyabi
Hoshimi Miyabi is the head of Hollow Special Operations Section 6. The ZZZ character is said to follow a strict sense of order and boasts prowess in martial arts as a member of a renowned family in New Eridu. Miyabi is said to dream of building an “unbreakable city management system.“
Miyabi uses a katana in battle and seems to be accompanied by an eye-like yokai of sorts. The character is also known for having a large collection of swords, which seems to demonstrate her affinity with that specific weapon type – and may hint at her combat style in Zenless Zone Zero. Her Japanese voice actor is Koshimizu Ami.
7 Soukaku
The other ZZZ character that has been revealed to be a part of Sector 6 is called Soukaku. This seems to be a female character with blue skin and demon-like features, like a pair of horns and an arrow-shaped tail. Soukaku is considered to not only be a member, but also an “asset” to the institution.
It seem like Soukaku is extremely powerful, as her description mentions that those who underestimate her cease to exist. Despite her powers, she is also said to be an “immature kid” that also has some trouble with words, often mispronouncing them. Her Japanese voice actor is Machico.
6 Ben Bigger
Another confirmed faction in Zenless Zone Zero is Belobog Heavy Industries, and one of its members is Ben Bigger. This is an anthropomorphic bear that, in spite of his physical strength, is the head of finance in the group. Regardless of his job, however, he specializes in “fighting thugs with his pillar” and then returning to his accounting tasks.
Ben Bigger is also said to possess great memory, having memorized “all 58 account ledgers in his office.” The Japanese voice actor for this ZZZ character is Kenji Hamada.
5 Anton Ivanov
A senior member an onsite project manager within the Belobog Heavy Industries organization, Anton Ivanov is a vigorous Zenless Zone Zero character. He is said to have a “sharp tongue but a soft heart” and is willing to help those in need.
Anton Ivanov seems to carry a portable drill on his forearm, which may actually be his weapon for combat. The voice for Anton in ZZZ is Shinichiro Kamio.
4 Koleda Belobog
The president of Belobog Heavy Industries is Koleda Belobog. This young lady has red hair and wears an eye patch. This ZZZ hero is described as “small and cute, with some firece combat power.” Koleda wields a large hammer in battle and seems to also use a wrench of sorts.
Koleda is said to prefer to work onsite rather than behind a desk, which may show how she is connected to Anton. Because of her young age, she occasionally allows her childness to show over her maturity. Koleda’s Japanese voice actor is Yuka Iguchi.
3 Von Lycaon
Specialized in being a personal attendant, Lycaon is a member of the Victoria Housekeeping Co. This anthropomorphic wolf character is said to be useful as a servant and is the “most trusted of attendants.” Lycaon is also described as a “gentleman.“
The ZZZ character does not seem to carry any specific weapon and his combat style may be with melee attacks when using his claws. In fact, Lycaon is said to have a “feral character” that reveals itself when he is in danger. His Japanese voice actor is Chikahiro Kobayashi.
2 Corin Wickes
Corin Wickes is another member of the Victoria Housekeeping Co., though she works as a maid rather than a personal assistant. This character wears a maid outfit with some attached chains and a teddy bear backpack. She is said to be a hard worker, though she seems to be very shy.
Despite being timid, she will always do her best for her companions. Corin uses a unique weapon, which seems like a circular saw attached to the end of a polearm. Her Japanese voice actor in Zenless Zone Zero is Hiromi Igarashi.
1 Soldier 11
Soldier 11 is a somewhat mysterious character who is not a part of any known faction in Zenless Zone Zero so far. She is considered to be a “model soldier who follows orders and stays loyal to the mission.” Because of the rules she follows, Soldier 11 sees herself as a weapon to be wielded.
Her determination to her beliefs are so intense, in fact, that she abandoned her name and goes under the alias Soldier 11, exclusively. So far, it is not known for whom she fights. Yukiyo Fujii is the Japanese voice actor for the ZZZ character.
So far, these are the playable characters who have been given official names and additional details. However, it’s likely that HoYoverse will reveal more characters as the game gets closer to launch – some are even teased in the official website. While it’s possible not every character shown off in the trailer will become playable, the F2P nature of Zenless Zone Zero hints that most – if not all – characters should join the playable roster eventually, similar to how some Genshin Impact characters start off as NPCs before being playable in future updates.
