Every Upcoming Chris Evans Movie

Chris Evans became a household name after bringing Captain America to life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but now that his time as Steve Rogers is over, the actor is ready to headline new movies. Evans has been acting professionally for over two decades, making his debut in an educational film titled Biodiversity: Wild About Life! in 1997. While splitting his time between movie and TV projects, Evans found his breakout role in 2001’s Not Another Teen Movie. A few years later, Evans had his first foray portraying a popular Marvel Comics character when he was cast as Johnny Storm (aka Human Torch) in Fantastic Four. He reprised his role in the 2007 sequel, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, but that would mark the end of his first Marvel stint.

After appearing in notable films like Push and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Evans was cast as Captain America, a vital figure in Marvel Studios’ cinematic universe. After making his debut in Captain America: The First Avenger, Evans reprised the role for six other MCU installments and a handful of uncredited cameos. In that time, Evans acquired roles outside of the superhero genre with leading roles in Snowpiercer, GiftedThe Red Sea Diving Resort, and Knives Out. He also starred in Apple TV+’s Defending Jacob, a series he also executive produced.

Though Evans’ time playing Captain America has seemingly come to an end based on Rogers’ twist in Avengers: Endgame, the actor still has a bright future ahead. Without the MCU, Evans’ list of upcoming films isn’t as jam-packed as it once was, but that can soon change. The actor has a Disney reunion in the future in addition to a rumored remake of a cult classic. That said, here’s every upcoming Chris Evans movie.

From Adam McKay (Anchorman), Don’t Look Up is being categorized as a political satire disaster comedy. Originally set to debut on Netflix in 2020, production was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Filming officially wrapped in February 2021 with plans for a streaming release before the end of the year as part of Netflix’s boosted slate of original films. The film follows two low-level astronomers who go on a nationwide media tour to warn humankind about an approaching asteroid that could destroy the Earth. Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio will portray the pair of astronomers alongside a star-studded cast that also includes Cate Blanchett, Meryl Streep, Timothée Chalamet, and Tyler Perry. Chris Evans is also a highlight in the cast, playing the role of Peter Isherwell.

Lightyear – June 17, 2022

Buzz Lightyear preparing to launch in Lightyear

Chris Evans will soon be returning to Disney, but it won’t be a part of the MCU. During Disney’s Investor Day announcements in late 2020, it was revealed Evans would be voicing Buzz Lightyear for the upcoming prequel spinoff, Lightyear. Based on the action figure featured in Pixar’s Toy Story franchise, Angus MacLane’s Lightyear will focus on the real-life astronaut who inspired the creation of the toy voiced by Tim Allen. Though this depiction of Buzz will be a human, the format will still be animation to fit Pixar’s style. The in-universe depiction of Buzz will dive deeper into the figure’s origins and why he was chosen for a line of toy merchandise. It’s unclear who else will join Evans in voicing characters, but Lightyear is currently scheduled to release June 17, 2022.

Little Shop Of Horrors – TBA

Little Shop of Horrors is getting the remake treatment from Greg Berlanti, and Chris Evans is among the names rumored for a prominent role. Loosely based on 1960’s The Little Shop of Horrors, the story was made popular during an off-Broadway run in the early ’80s. The dark comedy musical, in turn, was adapted into a film in 1986 starring names like Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene, Steve Martin, John Candy, Christopher Guest, and Bill Murray. The cult classic, directed by Frank Oz, followed Seymour Krelborn, a nerdy florist who found out his Venus flytrap, dubbed Audrey II, had a taste for human flesh. Evans was last heard to be in talks to play Orin Scrivello, the sadistic dentist character who also happens to be the abusive boyfriend of Seymour’s crush, Audrey. Martin notably played the part of Dr. Scrivello in the 1986 adaption. Evans’ MCU co-star Scarlett Johansson has been in talks to play Audrey for the project that has yet to announce a targeted release date.

The Gray Man – TBA

The Gray Man Chris Evans Ryan Gosling

Chris Evans is set to reteam with Anthony and Joe Russo, the directors of four MCU installments, for the film adaptation of The Gray Man. Based on the 2009 novel by Mark Greaney, The Gray Man centers on Court Gentry, a veteran CIA operative that emerges as a fugitive after his own agency betrays him. Among the group hunting him down is Lloyd Hansen, a member of Gentry’s agency. Evans will portray Hansen, whereas Ryan Gosling has been tapped to play the co-lead of Gentry. The actor is reuniting with his Knives Out co-star Ana de Armas with a cast that includes Jessica Henwick, Wagner Moura, Regé-Jean Page, Billy Bob Thornton, and Alfre Woodard. Evans’ fifth collaboration with the Russo Brothers will stream exclusively on Netflix, and with its $200 million budget, the movie will serve as the streamer’s most expensive film to date. Once filming is completed in California, production is expected to take place throughout Europe.

Bermuda – TBA

Aside from a major role in Little Shop of Horrors, Chris Evans has been circling the lead role in Scott Derrickson’s Bermuda. While most of the plot details are being kept under wraps, Bermuda will focus on the infamous Bermuda Triangle, a Caribbean location with a bizarre history of plane and ship disappearances. The mystery thriller from Skydance has been in development for quite some time, but Derrickson and his team recently took the reigns by rewriting the script. Evans would be reportedly be playing the part of Dr. Fisk if the film fully comes to fruition. As of now, there’s no word on the rest of the cast. Like Evans, Derrickson has connections to the MCU after directing 2016’s Doctor Strange.
