Every Upcoming Adrien Brody Movie & TV Show

Adrien Brody returns to screens with Chapelwaite but has a wealth of other projects lined up — here’s a breakdown of all his upcoming movies and TV shows. The New York-born actor made his debut in the late 1980s, working steadily throughout the next decade. After amassing countless credits, he looked set to receive his big break via The Thin Red Line. Unfortunately, director Terrence Malick significantly reduced his role from lead to a minor supporting character during the editing process. Instead, Adrien Brody came to more widespread prominence four years later. His turn as Władysław Szpilman in The Pianist earned him an Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role and made him the youngest ever recipient.

In the years since then, Adrien Brody turned several equally noteworthy performances.  Those included Noah Percy in The Village, Jack Driscoll in King Kong, and Royce in Predators. He also embodied multiple real-world figures, including Salvador Dali in Midnight in Paris and Harry Houdini in the Houdini miniseries. His other small-screen work also included a recurring turn on Peaky Blinders. Along the way, he worked with some of the most prolific directors in recent memory, including Peter Jackson, M. Night Shyamalan, Rian Johnson, and Wes Anderson (more on him later). Signing on to star in Chapelwaite, one of the many upcoming vampire TV shows, however, 2021 marked Adrien Brody’s return to television.

Based on Stephen King’s short story, “Jerusalem’s Lot,” Chapelwaite was developed by Peter and Jason Filardi. In December 2019, Adrien Brody was officially cast in the lead role of Captain Charles Boone. Following the death of his wife, Charles relocated to his ancestral home in Preacher’s Corners, Maine, with his three children. Despite seeking normalcy and stability, Charles and his family were soon beset by a series of unsettling events and dark family secrets. Garnering significant buzz even prior to its premiere, Chapelwaite promised to be one of many notable roles Adrien Brody will add to his resume in the coming years. Here’s a breakdown of every upcoming movie and TV show he has already signed on to star.

The French Dispatch

Every Upcoming Adrien Brody Movie & TV Show

Already considered one of 2021’s most anticipated movies and described as “a love letter to journalists,” Adrien Brody will team up with Wes Anderson for The French Dispatch. After several delays, the traditionally quirky comedy-drama finally premiered in July 2021 and was scheduled for wide release on October 22, 2021. The movie will actually mark the fourth collaboration between Wes Anderson and Adrien Brody and was already confirmed to be far from the last. Brody will play Julien Cadazio, an art dealer based on Lord Duveen.

Succession

Chapelwaite won’t be Adrien Brody’s only foray into television in 2021. He has also been confirmed to appear in a guest star role in Succession season 3, which is set for a Fall release. With the war between members of the infamous Roy family set to intensify, he signed on to play Josh Aaronson in Jesse Armstrong’s HBO series. Described as a billionaire, activist investor, Adrien Brody’s character will no doubt serve to exacerbate the individual and collective tensions.

See How They Run

Sam Rockwell as Inspector Stoppard and Saoirse Ronan as Constable Stalker in See How They Run

With cinematic murder mysteries having remained all the rage, See How They Run amassed a star-studded cast. Written by Mark Chappell and directed by Tom George, the movie will center on efforts to adapt a stage play for the big screen. When members of the production turn up dead, however, Sam Rockwell’s Inspector Stoppard and Saoirse Ronan’s Constable Stalker will be called in to investigate. Adrien Brody was confirmed to be playing Leo Köpernick, the fictional adaptation’s amoral and overly dramatic director.

Emperor

Adrien Brody as Charles V in Emperor

Among the many delayed movies releasing in 2022 will be Emperor. Written by Michael Thomas and directed by Lee Tamahori, the historical epic will center on Sophie Cookson’s Johanna Of Ghent. Amid increasingly unstable times, she’ll seek revenge for the death of her father. Marking yet another period piece among his upcoming credits, Adrien Brody signed on to play Charles V – the titular Roman Emperor and target of Johanna’s vengeful quest.

Blonde

Another famous female figure from times past whose story will be revisited is Marilyn Monroe. Blonde, based on Joyce Carol Oates’ book of the same name, was written and directed by Andrew Dominik. Initially set to be among the movies scheduled for a Fall 2021 release via Netflix, it was ultimately pushed back to 2022. Already garnering praise for her transformative turn, Blonde will star Ana de Armas as Marilyn Monroe. Alongside her, Adrien Brody will play a version of Arthur Miller credited solely as The Playwright.

El Tonto

Pacific Rim Charlie Day Newt Geiszler

Another movie locked in a long-time post-production stage has been Charlie Day’s El Tonto. The comic actor’s cinematic directorial debut has accumulated a packed cast, as befitting his being as popular behind the scenes as on-screen. Telling the story of a silent, lovesick fool who becomes an accidental celebrity, El Tonto‘s cast was confirmed to include Kate Beckinsale, Ted Lasso‘s Jason Sudeikis, Edie Falco, and several alums from soon-to-be 15 seasons of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Adrien Brody will also join them in an as-yet-unnamed role.

Untitled Wes Anderson Film

Adrien Brody in Wes Anderson's H&M short

Amid The French Dispatch‘s delayed release, Wes Anderson has already gotten to work on his tenth full-length feature. Both its title and plot specifics have remained firmly under wraps. It has, however, been heavily rumored to be a love story. Whatever the case, filming has been underway in Spain since August. Despite Wes Anderson’s already considerable record for ensemble casts, his latest effort has promised to be one of his largest to date. Combining such newcomers as Margot Robbie and Tom Hanks with a range of his usual regulars, Adrien Brody will be among the latter. The nature and name of his character have also yet to be revealed.

Untitled Lakers Project

The Los Angeles Lakers and Adrien Brody

Amid HBO’s range of upcoming DC TV shows, they have also greenlit Adam McKay’s limited series centered on the 1980s Los Angeles Lakers. Developed in collaboration with Jim Hecht and Max Borenstein, the currently untitled miniseries was based on Jeff Pearlman’s book: Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s. Bringing the saga to life will be a range of familiar faces playing an array of equally familiar figures. Adrien Brody will be one of them, appearing in multiple episodes as famed coach Pat Riley.

The Salamander Lives Twice

Vera Farmiga and Adrien Brody

Adrien Brody also has two movies currently in the earliest stages of production. Written by Toby Harvard and directed by Ant Timpson, the first has been titled The Salamander Lives Twice. Co-starring Vera Farmiga from The Conjuring movie franchise, the synopsis reads: “A man with an impenetrable briefcase and no memory is found on the shoreline of a remote island by a woman and her daughter, who are the last remaining members of a once-prosperous family dynasty.” Currently left nameless, Adrien Brody will play that man.

Manodrome

Jesse Eisenberg and Adrien Brody

The second of the two movies has been titled Manodrome. Written and directed by John Trengove, it’ll follow an Uber driver and aspiring bodybuilder named Ralphie, as he’s inducted into a libertarian masculinity cult. He’ll subsequently lose his grip on reality when his repressed desires are awakened. The cast has already been confirmed to include Riley Keough and Jesse Eisenberg (presumably as Ralphie) alongside Adrien Brody (as, also presumably, a leader within the aforementioned cult). All in all, Adrien Brody fans will have plenty to look forward to — both during Chapelwaite‘s run and long after it has officially concluded.
