Pokémon Scarlet and Violet‘s Terastal phenomenon has brought a brand-new mechanic to battling and catching pocket monsters. In the Paldea Region, all Pokémon have the ability to Terastallize, a process through which their bodies shimmer like gems as they take on their new Tera Type. In most cases, a Tera Type will mirror a Pokémon’s regular typing, which causes moves of that type to have greater stab damage. But in other cases, a Pokémon’s Tera Type will cause them to change into an entirely different type when activated. When a Pokémon’s Tera Type actually causes it to change type, it makes that Pokémon more valuable, as it is both rarer and more impactful in battles.
Technically speaking, all Pokémon have the capacity to have a Tera Type that changes their typing. This is because Terastal Forms in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet can be changed by visiting the chef at the Treasure Eatery in Medali, who will change any Pokémon’s Tera Type in exchange for 50 Tera Shards of the specific Tera Type desired. However, this is a grueling process that requires grinding lots of Tera Raid battles; even these Tera Raid battles don’t always offer Pokémon with unique Tera Types. So, players should seek Pokémon who naturally have Terastal Forms that change their typing, and these can be found in Wild Terastal Form Encounters.
All Pokémon Whose Terastal Form Changes Their Typing In Scarlet & Violet
In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Wild Terastal Form Encounters refer to wild Pokémon in their Terastal Forms as indicated by their golden glow in the overworld. These Pokémon typically have special Tera Types that change their typing. After being caught, they can be recaptured and will likely have different, random Tera Types. But despite these random Terastal Forms, Serebii.net has found that these Wild Terastal Form Pokémon have a set Tera Type for their initial encounter. Following is a table of the 56 Pokémon whose set Tera Types actually change their typing:

For most of these Pokémon, their Terastal Forms have a significant impact on their typing. However, Pokémon such as Fletchling have Tera Types that their later evolutions’ will have naturally. In other cases, like Avalugg’s and Sneasel’s, their Tera Types even reflect their Hisuian Variant’s typing.
In the future, black crystal Tera Raid events will introduce even more Terastal Form Pokémon with special Tera Types. The first of these Pokémon will be Charizard, whose Dragon Tera Type form will be available in raids from December 1 to December 4. Hopefully additional easy methods for attaining unique Tera Type Pokémon will come to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet in the future.
