Every Starfield Starborn Armor, Ranked By Style

One of Starfield‘s most intriguing mechanics is New Game Plus, where players unlock new sets of Starborn armor on each new playthrough after beating the game. The Starborn are cosmic entities who are later revealed to be humans who have passed through the Unity. The Unity grants all who pass through it access to the multiverse, and anyone who enters it leaves behind their original universe forever.

While entering the Unity and becoming Starborn is optional for those who have unfinished business in their universe, it’s the only way to progress the game to New Game Plus. Stepping into the Unity in Starfield will take the player to another universe which is set at the beginning of the game, thus starting the first New Game Plus playthrough. It also unlocks the first of 10 sets of Starborn armor, each with different looks and stat bonuses for the new multiversal travelers.

“An Instant Classic”: Starfield Review

Starfield has plenty of captivating tales and dynamic mechanics that make it an epic science fiction adventure – and an instant classic.

The Avitus Is Unlike Other Starborn Armors

The Avitus Starborn armor in Starfield

The Avitus may be the second strongest Starborn armor in the game, but its looks are not aligned with its stats. Both the spacesuit underneath and the cloth overlay are mostly an unflattering shade of brown, a strange reward for such an elite accomplishment. The all-white Locus armor would have been a much better choice to match the great stats of the Avitus.

This armor is automatically unlocked for any player who completes the game nine times and begins their ninth playthrough. Nine playthroughs could take hundreds of hours, even if the player was rushing through the main story to reach New Game Plus. There is no multiplayer or PvP in Starfield, but if there were, players with the Avitus Starborn armor would be formidable foes.

Astra Is The First Starborn Armor

The Astra Starborn suit in Starfield

The Astra armor is the first Starborn suit that becomes available after walking into the Unity and beginning New Game Plus. It boasts impressive stats and a sleek style unlike any other armors in the game. It doesn’t closely resemble either the Hunter or the Emissary’s armor, but it has the look of a new Starborn eager to explore the multiverse for the first time.

Compared to other Starborn sets of armor, which are largely just slight variations of bulky spacesuits, the Astra Starborn armor is a satisfying change of pace. It also has better resistance bonuses than any set of armor that can be acquired in the base game. It even comes with the Starborn spaceship, which is a necessity for all the game’s interstellar travelers and one of the best Starfield ships.

The Materia Suit Is A Tighter Fit

The Materia Starborn armor in Starfield

After completing the story for the second time and entering the Unity once more, players will be rewarded with the Materia Starborn suit. This is extremely similar to the Astra suit, just with a more fitted design throughout and a few darker patches in the mid-section. Considering Starfield is such a lengthy game, it would be nice to have a little more difference between the first and second armors, but it’s still chic and functional.

The Materia Starborn armor in Starfield has even higher bonuses than the Astra suit, with boosts of 10 in physical, energy, and EM resistances, and five in thermal, corrosive, airborne, and radiation resistances. The helmet is also slightly different, with an even more aerodynamic and futuristic look. Completing Starfield‘s main campaign twice is no small feat, but this is the second of many Starborn suits available for those who are up to the task.

Solis Armor Combines Styles From Locus & Tenebris

The Solis Starborn armor in Starfield

After completing Starfield‘s main story and entering the Unity for the fifth time, players will be rewarded with the Solis Starborn armor. This suit features a spacesuit which appears to be a less shiny version of the Tenebris armor, but a cloth overgarment like the Locus armor. It also features a much larger visor than several of its predecessors.

Out of all 10 Starborn armors, the Solis is one of the least aesthetically attractive, largely due to the conflicting black spacesuit and bright white cloth. It’s still worth using for those who make it to their fifth playthrough thanks to its best-in-class (to this point) bonuses, but other armors far surpass its looks. Its physical, energy, and EM resistances are nearly 200, while thermal, corrosive, airborne, and radiation are at 50, which is the cap on all Starborn suits.

The Tenebris Armor Looks Distinctly Futuristic

The Tenebris Starborn armor in Starfield

While the Locus armor bears resemblance to the Emissary, the Tenebris armor looks much more like their evil counterpart, the Hunter. This suit doesn’t have the Hunter’s signature black cape, but it does look like what could be underneath his dark overthrow. The Tenebris armor has style of someone with a similar backstory to Marvel’s Winter Soldier – perhaps once good, but now a tool for death and destruction.

To accompany the stat bonuses, the Tenebris armor is also the most valuable Starborn armor and can be sold for plenty of credits. Much of the suit is black and chrome, with a helmet so dark it’s impossible to discern the player’s identity underneath. For those who want to cosplay as Starfield‘s version of a Sith Lord, there are few better armors to strike fear into enemies than the Tenebris suit.

5

The Gravitas Is A Middle-Of-The-Road Starborn Suit

The Starborn Gravitas armor in Starfield

The Grativas suit is the sixth Starborn armor, and it fails to live up to its name as a truly average accessory. It doesn’t have the same style as some outfits that come before (or after), and is easily beaten by stats in the rest of the armors to come. Compared to the large catalog of wearable gear in Starfield, it’s great; compared to the other Starborn suits, it doesn’t stand out much.

The cloth poncho of the Gravitas outfit is fairly dirty, giving it a tan look, and it does have some gold/bronze on the forearms and shoulders. Statistically, it is the best armor in Starfield thus far, as each armor provides increasingly more resistance to physical, energy, and EM damage. Aesthetically, the Grativas armor isn’t the best reward for completing the game six times, but its stats are unmatched by all other suits earned before.

4

Bellum Changes The Color Of The Cloth Overgarment

The Starborn Bellum Armor in Starfield

The Bellum Starborn armor is the first to adjust the cloth worn over the top of the space suit to a darker color. This is the seventh Starborn suit, which is rewarding after walking into the Unity and starting New Game Plus playthrough number seven. Bellum bears the closest resemblance to the Hunter’s Starborn outfit, which is dark in both spacesuit and overthrow.

After this many runs at Starfield, players donning the Bellum Starborn suit are essentially a reincarnation of the Hunter at this point. This armor set also boasts immensely strong stats, with damage resistance bonuses well into the 200’s. It even features a sleeker version of the helmet and visor, which looks much more aerodynamic.

The Locus Armor Shows Experience

The Locus Starborn armor in Starfield

The Locus Armor is the first Starborn piece that has features similar to the suit worn by the Emissary, one of the crucial figures in Starfield’s main story. It has the same underlying design as Astra and Materia, but also features a white cloth strung over the torso. The Locus armor has the look of a Starborn who has seen many universes, and knows this won’t be the last.

Similar to the two armors prior, it features useful stat boosts which make the player able to withstand even more damage. The all-white also has the heroic look of an interstellar traveler who traverses the stars spreading peace and justice. It is one of the most stylish sets of armor in Starfield, and is unlocked immediately upon starting the third New Game Plus playthrough.

2

The Tempus Looks Nearly Invulnerable

The Tempus Starborn Armor in Starfield

The Tempus armor is the last Starborn suit that doesn’t feature a cloth overgarment, and instead strips back to the basics of the first several Starborn armors. This piece is bulky and shiny, resembling a heavy set of armor that can withstand almost anything. It has the stats to back that up as well, boasting a damage resistance of nearly 225 in physical, energy, and EM categories.

As far as Starborn armor sets, which are only a spacesuit and no cloth, the Tempus is as good as it gets. It’s dark, shining, and has the look of someone who can handle themselves in a fight. This is a fitting reward for those who sink the hundreds of hours required to beat the game eight times and start yet another Starfield New Game Plus run.

The Venator Set Is The Best Starborn Armor

The Venator Starborn armor in Starfield

Out of every armor set in Starfield, none are more effective than the Starborn Venator armor. The only way to acquire this piece is by completing the main story and entering the Unity to start a New Game Plus 10 times. This is nothing short of a colossal undertaking, but the rewards are worth the work as wearing this armor makes the player nearly invincible.

The Venator set has the highest damage resistance, with nearly 250 points of protection against physical, energy, and EM damage. This armor is for true Starfield veterans, those who know the many solar systems like the back of their hand. Those who have put in the work to earn the Venator set are in a tier of their own compared to other players.

Earning these Starborn armor sets in Starfield‘s New Game Plus is a neat mechanic, but it could’ve been fleshed out more. While these suits are dashing and offer great protection, it’s a tall task to get the average person to play the same game several times, much less 10. Starfield‘s Shattered Space DLC is set to release before the end of 2024, providing Bethesda with another opportunity to release more incredible sets of armor that can stack up against the Starborn suits.
