Every [SPOILER] Seen At The End Of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

Warning: MAJOR SPOILERS for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

The ending of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker shows the newfound freedom of the galaxy by revisiting some familiar planets. Ever since the return of the franchise with 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, fans have been surprised to see little reliance on pre-established worlds in this story. J.J. Abrams’ first film may have had a sand planet, a snow planet, and a forest planet, but they weren’t Tatooine, Hoth, or Yavin 4. Instead, the sequel trilogy has continued to introduce new planets like Jakku, D’Qar, and Crait.

The interest in exploring new worlds in the galaxy far, far away continued in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, even as Abrams attempted to wrap up the entire Skywalker Saga. Viewers visited several new planets throughout the film. The secret Sith world Exegol played a prominent role in the movie, while part of Rey, Poe, and Finn’s mission took them to Kijimi and Pasaana. These worlds and many more were on the verge of being taken over by Palpatine’s reign yet again as he unleashed the Final Order and planned to destroy any that opposed him using miniaturized Death Star technology fitted to each of his new Star Destroyers.

While the Final Order does demonstrate its power by destroying Kajimi, the return of Palpatine is stopped before his fleet can do any more damage. Through an aerial assault led by Poe, a “ground” attack on the Destroyers led by Finn, and Rey and Ben Solo facing down Palpatine, Palpatine and the Final Order are destroyed. With the galaxy saved, The Rise of Skywalker borrows a page from Return of the Jedi and shows other familiar planets that are now free.

Bespin – Cloud City

Every [SPOILER] Seen At The End Of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

The first familiar location that is shown is Cloud City in Bespin. The familiar skyline of Lando Calrissian’s former home is seen for the first time since The Empire Strikes Back. Although The Rise of Skywalker doesn’t show Lando returning to the planet or cameos of any other recognizable characters who may live there, the city is being freed from the threat of the Final Order. We see a nearby Star Destroyer being destroyed and falling through the sky.

Endor

Ewoks ambush the rebels on Forest Moon of Endor Star Wars Return of the Jedi

The second planet that is shown is the recognizable Forest Moon of Endor. The camera pans down from the sky, which shows a Star Destroyer being destroyed, to reveal the treehouses of the Ewoks. Not only does the scene allow fans to revisit the location for the first time since Return of the Jedi, but it also brings back the most famous member of the adorable creatures. As teased in one of the featurettes for The Rise of Skywalker, Warwick Davis reprises his role as Wicket. He’s shown watching the fall of the Final Order along with his son Pommet, played by Warwick’s son Harrison.

Jakku

Star Wars Force Awakens Battle of Jakku

The last planet shown at the end of The Rise of Skywalker is Jakku. The planet was where audiences first met Rey and served as the location for the actual end of The Empire in canon is glimpsed again as Palpatine’s latest evil scheme is foiled. Using the same site as picture above, one of the Final Order’s Star Destroyers is shown plummeting to the sands of Jakku. The remains of the Empire will forever be remembered by the crashed Star Destroyer scavenged by Rey, and now the fall of Final Order – something Rey is directly responsible for in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker – will permanently be marked on Jakku.
