Every PlayStation Plus Extra & Premium Game Available September 2022

Every month, PlayStation Plus users have an array of new games to look forward to, and September 2022 is no exception. Starting on September 6, three free games will be joining the list of titles available for PS Plus Essential subscribers to play: Need for Speed Heat, Granblue Fantasy: Versus, and the PS5 game Toem. Even more will be added on September 20, however, for PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium users specifically. That said, Red Dead Redemption 2 is being pulled from the service that same day. PlayStation Plus subscribers who have yet to give it a try have a limited amount of time to do so; however, the influx of other games taking its place still make the day an overall exciting one.

At the start of the month, September’s PlayStation Plus Essential games were officially revealed following leaks that hinted at what subscribers could expect from the end of summer 2022. It isn’t entirely uncommon for the list of upcoming games to drop ahead of any official announcement, and the same thing occurred regarding August’s free games as well. The August leak included titles like Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater and Yakuza: Like A Dragon, one of eight Yakuza games coming to PlayStation Plus in 2022. Many long-time subscribers feel that the influx of titles is a result of PlayStation trying to soften the blow of the controversial rollout of the new PS Plus service.

The introduction of new tiers to the PlayStation Plus subscription model has been confusing for many and even frustrating for some, with a significant member of subscribers left unsure if they should upgrade to PlayStation Plus Premium or Extra. The addition of highly-anticipated titles like Stray to PS Plus Extra may have helped persuade quite a few to make the jump, and it’s likely that September’s list could do the same. Deathloop May Be September 2022’s Best PS Plus Extra Game

Perhaps the most exciting game coming to PlayStation Plus Extra is Arkane Lyon’s first-person shooter Deathloop, first released in September 2021 to a great deal of excitement. Full of unique time-loop based combat and deep mysteries to be solved, many players consider Deathloop to be one of the best FPS games of 2021. Deathloop pits two rival assassins against one another, and the game’s main story features player character Colt attempting to break the cycle by taking out key targets. On the flip side, players also have the ability to invade other players’ games as Julianna, adding a unique multiplayer mechanic that helps the game stand out even further.

PlayStation Plus Extra Includes Assassin’s Creed & Watch Dogs In September

PlayStation Plus Extra isn’t just bringing stand-out standalone games to the subscription service, though. Games from iconic series such as Assassin’s Creed and Watch Dogs are also appearing in September 2022. Watch Dogs 2, which initially came out in 2016, is an open-world action-adventure game with a great deal of flexibility when it comes to playstyle. Given that Watch Dogs 2 came to Xbox Game Pass in July 2022, it’s exciting that it’s now making the leap to PlayStation. Assassin’s Creed Origins is another open-world action game for players to try out, allowing fans of the Assassin’s Creed franchise to dive into the origins of the series’ ongoing story.

Spiritfarer: Farewell Edition Is One Of PS Plus Extra’s Best Indie Games

For those PlayStation Plus Extra subscribers looking for something a bit more casual, they could turn to management game Spiritfarer: Farewell Edition. The indie title allows players to build, explore, farm, and mine their way across the map, picking up and befriending spirits as they escort them to the afterlife. Spiritfarer is overall a more relaxing venture than many of the action games coming to PS Plus in September 2022, and well worth giving a try considering it’s often considered one of 2020’s best indie video games.

Spiritfarer isn’t the only indie game coming to PlayStation Plus in the upcoming weeks, though. PS Plus Extra subscribers can also try out Chicory: A Colorful Tale, a game that allows players to draw on just about anything including the world around them. There are also a couple of racing games, brawlers, and platformers, meaning that September 2022’s PS Plus roster should have something for just about everyone to enjoy.

The Sly Collection & Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time Are On PS Plus Premium

PS Plus Premium subscribers have quite a bit to look forward to, as well, namely a whole array of classic games from the PS3 and PSP. Toy Story 3, the PSP game based off Pixar’s film of the same name, is one such example. Syphon Filter 2 from the PS1 will also be making an appearance, unsurprisingly as it was announced earlier in 2022 that the Syphon Filter series would come to PS Plus. However, arguably the most well-known games on the list are The Sly Collection and Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, both of which allow players to revisit the iconic franchise. September 2022 is a solid example of the fact that PlayStation Plus doesn’t only allow subscribers to access new games, but also gives them an opportunity to rediscover old classics.

All in all, there are around ten games coming to PlayStation Plus Extra, and six additional titles for PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers. This is on top of the three games coming to PS Plus Essential. September 2022 is shaping up to be a good month to subscribe to either the Extra or Premium tiers, especially now that this month has made it look as though PS Plus could add more classic PlayStation games in the future. Although technically speaking PlayStation Plus has fewer games than PS Now did, the near-constant rotation of games in and out at least still gives players the chance to try something new they may otherwise be unable or unwilling to play. Hopefully there’s something in the September 2022 lineup for nearly every PlayStation Plus subscriber to enjoy. If not, the next selection of games is only a month away, and undoubtedly the next selection will have a similar variety to choose from.
