Every New MCU Super Team Rumored For Phase 4

Every New MCU Super Team Rumored For Phase 4

The Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 4 could introduce multiple new super teams; here’s every team that Marvel Studios is rumored to be setting up. Throughout the MCU, the fictional universe has seen the number of super-powered individuals rise, exponentially, in fact, according to Vision in Captain America: Civil War. Despite this continued increase in people with abilities, the MCU has primarily operated with just one team of heroes, the Avengers, who served as the throughline for the decade-spanning, interconnected story. It came to a head in Avengers: Endgame with almost every powered person in the MCU appearing in the final battle against Thanos.

With some of the original Avengers out of the picture (Iron Man and Black Widow died, while Captain America grew old with Peggy Carter), the MCU is now nearing the start of Phase 4. The next few years of MCU content will see some well-known characters stay in the spotlight, promote supporting characters to leads on Disney+, and also introduce new heroes in the films and shows. Phase 4 will see Shang-Chi and the Eternals lead movies that could become franchises, while Disney+ is filling the six hours of content for each show to the max with more Marvel characters.

In light of a significant team-up movie to culminate Phase 4, Marvel Studios instead appears content to continue making each movie or show mini team-ups. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is bringing multiple magical characters to the screen, while Disney+ is pairing up various MCU characters for new adventures. The introduction of so many new elements is precisely what Phase 4 needs, especially as there is no new Avengers movie on the horizon or a clear definition of who is a member of the Avengers (if they still exist at all). But, that doesn’t mean that super teams are not going to play significant roles in the new phase – as several Marvel teams are rumored to debut in Phase 4.

Young Avengers

Every New MCU Super Team Rumored For Phase 4

The Young Avengers are a group of teenage heroes who first assembled in Marvel Comics in 2005. The team was put together by Iron Lad (who was Kang from the future), and the original lineup included Cassie Lang aka Stature, Eli Bradley aka Patriot, Billy Kaplan aka Wiccan, and Teddy Altman aka Hulkling. Over time, their ranks have changed and expanded to include Kate Bishop aka Hawkeye, Tommy Shepherd aka Speed, American Chavez, and others. So far, only Cassie Lang has debuted in the MCU, but that will change in Phase 4.

Kate Bishop is the only other Young Avengers member confirmed to join Phase 4 as a co-star in the Disney+ Hawkeye series. However, there are signs that Wiccan and Speed (who are the reincarnated sons of Wanda Maximoff) will be introduced in WandaVision, which also reportedly will include Hulkling. Meanwhile, Patriot’s grandfather will reportedly appear in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, so he could have a cameo, too. There are also reports that Miss America will debut in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. If all of this is true, then the Young Avengers would be ready to form soon. There have even been rumors that this could happen in Ant-Man 3, so the introduction of the team might be even closer than many would think.

Thunderbolts

The new Thunderbolts The Punisher

Marvel’s secret supervillain team known as the Thunderbolts might join Phase 4 as well. In the comics, the Thunderbolts are conceived by Baron Zemo. They were formed at a time when the world lost some of its biggest heroes. Instead of going through with their evil plots, it was decided that they’d be rebranded and pose as heroes. Zemo became known as Citizen V, and other villains, like Screaming Mimi and Moonstone, adopted new identities. The Thunderbolts have been reimagined many times over the years, with Hawkeye leading them at one point.

It has long been theorized that the Thunderbolts will form in the MCU, and a version of the team is rumored to be in the Phase 4 plans. With Zemo returning (and donning his iconic purple mask) in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, his super team will reportedly join him in some fashion. The lineup of Thunderbolts is not known, and the same is true about what state the team will be in if they do appear. But, an introduction in the first MCU Disney+ series would give them plenty of time to form/return later in Phase 4, possibly in their own movie or TV series. In addition to Zemo, the MCU has several Thunderbolts members introduced or coming to the screen soon, such as Ghost, Thunderbolt Ross aka Red Hulk, and Taskmaster.

Squadron Supreme

Phase 4 could also introduce one of Marvel’s super teams from another dimension. The Squadron Supreme have been a part of Marvel Comics since 1971, and for most of that time, they’ve operated in their own reality on Earth-712. They are effectively Marvel’s version of the Justice League and include Hyperion, Nighthawk, Power Princess, Doctor Spectrum, Whizzer, Amphibian, and many others among their ranks. More recently, though, the Squadron Supreme have become part of the main Earth-616 comic universe and saw a new team form using versions of the heroes from across the multiverse.

The possibility of the Squadron Supreme making their MCU debuts in Phase 4 has been tied to Tom Hiddleston’s return as Loki. The god of mischief will star in a Disney+ series that follows the alternate version of Loki shown to escape the Avengers in 2012 as part of Avengers: Endgame‘s time travel missions. This series will also include the multiverse cop squad known as Time Variance Authority, and the possible multi-dimensional adventure could be where the Squadron Supreme fit in. They’re rumored to have some role to play in Loki, which could be the start of their own MCU adventures.

Agents of Atlas

Agents Of Atlas charge into battle from Marvel Comics

A more recent Marvel super team known as the Agents of Atlas are also in the running to be introduced in the MCU’s Phase 4. Jimmy Woo leads the Agents of Atlas and originally featured a lineup full of lesser-known characters like Gorilla-Man, 3-D Man, and Namor’s female cousin Namora. They have since become a team filled with Marvel’s most prominent Asian characters like Shang-Chi, Ms. Marvel, Silk, and Giant-Man.

According to some internet rumors, the Agents of Atlas will be set up in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings with the plan to give them a spinoff project down the road. It would not appear that they will form in their entirety in the Phase 4 film, however. This potential team would most likely include Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi and could be further set up as Randall Park returns as Jimmy Woo in WandaVision and Kamala Khan joins the MCU in Ms. Marvel. There’s also no telling what other Agents of Atlas characters could receive small roles in Shang-Chi or simply be referenced.
